Overwatch will soon reveal a trailer for an upcoming hero. Is it the omnic detective? Here’s what Overwatch game director Aaron Keller revealed during a group interview.
Overwatch promises new hero and cinematic
In the group interview, Keller revealed that Overwatch will have one more season in 2026. The year will also end with a final hero trailer acting as the prologue to Overwatch’s narrative in 2027.
Based on the hints scattered across the fairly new Grimsvötn map, this hero trailer will likely involve the upcoming omnic detective who we first saw at BlizzCon 2026.

According to Keller, the new Overwatch hero trailer will then be followed by “the best cinematic we’ve ever made” slated for early next year.
“We’ve been so excited to return to narrative this year, and it’s the first time that Overwatch has told a linear, comprehensive story over the course of a year,” Keller said. “We have seen a lot of really great reactions from our players as we’ve done this, and we do have the intention to continue doing it. I’m so excited for the 2027 story that’s going to be coming out.”
Reflecting on Overwatch’s narrative in 2026
During the interview, Keller also acknowledged that there’s still room to improve upon the delivery of Overwatch’s story and lore. For context, throughout 2026, we’ve received short stories, Overwatch: Undivided episodes on WEBTOON, animated shorts, and in-game events such as Anima Strike in Season 3 and My MEKA Mania in Season 4.
Overall, 2026 has been a real treat for Overwatch lore enthusiasts. However, players who don’t typically keep up with all the pieces may have missed some important moments.

“I think that it can be easy to miss some of this stuff when we release it. Just yesterday, we released a cinematic that was the wrap up to the 2026 story. It was our finale. It’s this really amazing piece of this fight between Vendetta and Doomfist with Overwatch present,” Keller said.
He continued, “And sometimes, I feel like unless you’re really following along, it might be easy to miss some of those pieces. So I think one of the things that we’re talking about [is] how do we get the story out in front of players to where it’s not only a can’t-miss moment, but it’s also something that they can’t miss because they also know about it?”
Associate game director Alec Dawson agreed, adding that the team wants to create more cohesive storytelling. He would like past story arcs to have a greater impact on the world while also leaving room for future narratives to develop in Overwatch.
