Control Resonant has been hit by a last-minute delay that will impact the launch of its physical editions.
While the Control sequel will still arrive digitally for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 24, fans wanting a boxed copy will now need to wait until October 15 to play.
“Get ready to unleash Dylan Faden’s paranatural abilities in warped Manhattan on September 24,” developer Remedy wrote today in a statement posted to social media. “We need just a little more time to deliver the physical version to you, but rest assured – nothing stays contained forever.”
On the upside, if you are waiting until October to play Control Resonant, you’ll have more time to play the absolute glut of other games also launching next month (Marvel’s Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Dune: Awakening, Silent Hill: Townfall, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and many more). And you still have over a month to finish Control Resonant before GTA 6 rolls around on November 19.
“We position Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise,” Remedy boss Jean-Charles Gaudechon told investors earlier this month, as the company seeks to stabilize its finances following last year’s multiplayer experiment FBC: Firebreak. “In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out.”
That day-one purchase may be a little later if you’re buying on disc, but all signs point to Control Resonant being a worthy sequel when it finally arrives. “Control Resonant is shaping up to be exactly what it looks like: more Control, only designed as a melee action game as opposed to physics-driven third person shooter,” IGN wrote after going hands-on earlier this year. “And so far, that’s an incredibly potent mix.”
