The ALGS Year 5 Championship has been a wild ride so far, with a plethora of action-packed matches from some of the top teams in Apex Legends.

Following the conclusion of the Group Stage, teams have now been seeded in the Bracket Stage. From now on, eliminations will occur, and one team will ultimately be crowned ALGS Year 5 champion.

As things heat up, Esports Insider reflects on the top performers of the ALGS Year 5 Championship so far, and which among them can take the crown.

In the Bracket Stage, 20 teams will compete in the Upper Brackets, while 20 will compete in the Lower Brackets.

The top 10 teams from the Upper Brackets will move to the Finals, while the bottom 10 will fall to the second round of the Lower Brackets. The first round of the Lower Brackets will see the bottom 10 eliminated, while the rest move on to the second round.

The top 10 teams from Lower Bracket Round Two will complete the Grand Finals line-up. From there, it is any team’s game with a huge a $2m (~£1.48m) prize pool also on the line.

Are Team Falcons Above the Competition?

One of the front-runners of the tournament is Team Falcons, which topped the ALGS Championship group standings (166 points) in the Group Stage.

The team has seen a great deal of success at the event so far, securing multiple first-place wins across various games. The organisation boasts incredibly skilled players, including Apex Legends icon Philip ‘ImperialHal‘ Dosen. In the Group Stage, he notably topped the kill leaderboards with 46 eliminations in the championship despite organisers banning his go-to controller a few days prior.

Before the ALGS Year 5 Championship commenced, several esports analysts named Team Falcons as their predicted winners. Following the results so far, Team Falcons has cemented itself further as a fan favourite to not only advance to the Finals but also win the world championship.

One of the few teams to put Team Falcons through its paces in the championship has been ENTER FORCE.36. The Group Stage kickstarted with a back-and-forth rivalry between the two organisations as both fought for the top spot in the leatherboards.

ENTER FORCE.36 was at the top of the group standings after day one, though it would drop down to a respectable fourth (157) after the results of day two, only nine points behind Team Falcons.

The organisation has stepped up at the ALGS Year 5 Championship after a year of disappointing results. This includes an early elimination in the ALGS Open and narrowly missing wins in the APAC North Pro League and Midseason Playoffs. Reaching the Finals and becoming the Year 5 champions would be the ultimate comeback story for the team, though only time will tell whether the players can make it happen.

Will UNLIMIT Take the Crown?

One of the most consistent teams throughout the competition is the APAC North Split 2 Pro League champion, UNLIMIT.

Through regular high placements across all three sets played, UNLIMIT secured second place in the group standings (158). It was able to place higher than other fan favourites, including GoNext Esports (sixth: 131), Shopify Rebellion (12th: 116) and Alliance (14th: 115).

The roster placed on the podium in a number of games and managed to secure three first-place wins in the Group Stage.

As a result, the team is anticipated to continue this momentum into the Upper Bracket and is likely to reach the Finals. Many streamers, casters and analysts, including Rafael ‘DiA‘ Ruiz and Jack ‘NiceWigg‘ Martin, also predicted that UNLIMIT will be crowned the new champions.

Shopify Rebellion Makes a Comeback

Despite being a fan favourite organisation from North America, Shopify Rebellion did not have the most stellar of starts in the Group Stage. Ending day one placed 20th, the team’s performance on day two would spell the difference between advancing to either the Upper or Lower Bracket.

However, day two proved much more favourable for the organisation, going as far as securing a first-place win on Group B vs C, and placing 12th (116) on the group standings.

Shopify Rebellion entered the competition as a strong contender, having previously won the Americas’ Split 2 Pro League. Many feared the team lost its edge facing international competitors, but its qualification to the Upper Bracket has reignited confidence that Shopify Rebellion can reach the Finals.

Who Will Win?

It cannot be said for certain who will win in the Finals of the ALGS Year 5 Championship, though based on the performances so far, all roads lead back to Team Falcons as the most likely team walk out victorious.

Team Falcons has recorded the best results, topped the group standings, and defeated some of the best regional teams in past games. With the team’s highly aggressive playstyle on multiple maps and ImperialHal being the reigning kill leader, the roster has proven to be a versatile and dangerous force in the competition.

However, past years have shown that underdogs can appear out of nowhere and snatch the championship title, as was the case with GoNext Esports in Year 4.
