No Rest for the Wicked, which was slated to hit 1.0 a month before Grand Theft Auto 6, is delayed into 2027

Moon Studios announced today that its upcoming action RPG No Rest for the Wicked will not go into 1.0 release in October as planned, but will instead launch in March 2027, following an open beta test currently slated for December.

“The honest truth is that we’re a small team, and we’re holding our games to a standard we won’t compromise on,” the studio wrote in a Steam update. “We’re close, but close isn’t good enough for our full 1.0 launch. The extra time will help us improve performance, tighten the class system, and polish the whole game to the standard you all deserve. We’d rather take a few more months than ship something that we know isn’t quite perfect yet.

“This extra time also means more closed and open beta tests in the coming months, which means you, our community, can get your hands on it and help us shape the final 1.0 build.” That will include the open beta in December, details of which will be shared in the future.

I should note here that absolutely no mention was made of Grand Theft Auto 6, which comes to consoles in November, in either the Steam update or a video message posted by Moon Studios chief Thomas Mahler. Some studios have made a point of avoiding the GTA 6 behemoth, others are theatrically charging straight at it; it’s impossible to say how much of a role Rockstar’s monster played in the decision to push No Rest for the Wicked into 2027, if any, but at the very least I imagine it has to be considered a nice side effect.

Regardless, this really isn’t the most devastating delay of all time. No Rest for the Wicked launched into early access on Steam more than two years ago, in April 2024, and has since seen significant updates, drawn in nearly 65,000 user reviews, and sold more than a million copies. Moon Studios chief Thomas Mahler warned in January that once 1.0 hits, No Rest for the Wicked’s price will be increased from its current $40 to $60.
