NetEase may have another MMO in the works, with new trademark applications for ECC: Redline covering online multiplayer games and, much more specifically, “massively multiplayer online role playing games.” Insider Gaming first spotted the filings in the US and Europe, although NetEase has yet to announce what ECC: Redline actually is.
The US application is the interesting one because it names MMORPGs outright alongside PC and mobile games, multiplayer software, esports competitions, and publishing. Trademark filings are often deliberately broad, so this is by no means a confirmation that ECC: Redline will become an MMO, but it gives us considerably more to work with than the usual pile of generic software categories the trademarks usually are.
