Godzilla Dev Wants to Do More Remasters, But ‘a Lot of Conversations’ Need to Happen First

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is the only remaster Pipeworks can confirm for now, but “a lot of stuff is on the table,” and there are “a lot of conversations to be had” in the future.

The developer behind the November upgrade and the 2002 game it’s based on opened up about the potential for more games in the series during an all-encompassing interview with IGN. With Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee officially coming back, the natural question we and everyone else had is: Will we be getting remasters for Godzilla: Save the Earth and Godzilla: Unleashed?

According to senior designer Simon Strange, it’s too soon to say, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t rooting for it to happen.

“Let me tell you, I had that desire long before we announced this game, so I get it,” Strange said. “I want to do all that stuff, too. I mean, all that stuff is now technically possible.”

Strange said a Pipeworks engineer recently created a tool that allowed them to bring old assets out of their original Spigot engine and into Unreal, thus resulting in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered. He confirmed the same technology could be used to create upgraded re-releases for the rest of the studio’s arena fighter trilogy, too. Unfortunately, the studio hasn’t signed any relevant contracts with publisher Atari just yet.

When Pipeworks launched its original Godzilla game for GameCube in 2002, the team only consisted of about “12 people in one room.” The company has since ballooned to include around 300 people who are often spread across dozens of different projects at any given time. That includes more focused games like Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, as well as titles it’s served as co-developer on, like Marathon, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Concord, and Destiny 2.

Choosing how to allocate those resources isn’t simple, and whether the demand for more Godzilla remasters is even there remains to be seen. Atari and Pipeworks have nothing to announce, even if Strange loves “the idea of bringing all that content back to the players.” The one catch, though, is that if more remasters do come to be, it would take a little more than a new coat of paint to get Godzilla: Unleashed into shape.

“I would especially love – and I’m speaking a little out of turn here – but I would love to avenge the sort of mediocre release of Godzilla: Unleashed,” Strange said. “There was a lot of trouble on that, and I had a conversation where we were like, ‘Would we remaster every possible game?’ I was like, ‘Nobody wants a straightforward remaster of Godzilla: Unleashed because that game was busted in some ways.’ So, if we wanted to revisit that content, I’d want to do it better.”

Strange isn’t exactly wrong; the third entry in Pipeworks’ arena brawler trilogy isn’t viewed quite as fondly as the others. Godzilla: Unleashed has a “Generally Unfavorable” score of 44 on review website Metacritic, with IGN’s review giving it a 4.9/10. For reference, Destroy All Monsters Melee has a 73 on the site (IGN: 8.5/10), while Save the Earth has a 63 (IGN: 6.5/10).

Again, nothing is officially in the works yet, but should more remaster plans materialize, it sounds like handling one project might be a bit easier than the other. We’ll hopefully have a better idea of what the future holds when Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered launches November 3, 2026, for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

“We’ve got a whole biz dev section, Atari’s got a whole biz dev section, they’re talking based on the response… I mean, a lot of stuff is on the table,” Strange added. “There’s a lot of conversations to be had in the future, and I’m very excited for all of that.”

Strange also teased that he considers Pipeworks’ November video game to be 40% remaster and 60% new, but you’ll have to wait to read IGN’s full interview to learn more on that front. We’ll share the rest of the conversation soon, but until then, be sure to check out our preview. You can also see what Strange had to say about the battle between his game and Grand Theft Auto 6.
