The Lords of the End Times are landing in Total War: Warhammer 3 on September 24, and everything’s coming up rat men

And skeletons. And demons. And—well—everything bad, really.

The Lords of the End Times are landing in Total War: Warhammer 3 on September 24, and everything’s coming up rat men

As the prophesied hour approaches, we now know when the End Times descend on Total War: Warhammer 3. Today, in a reveal that arrived alongside a new cinematic trailer, Creative Assembly announced that its anticipated Lords of the End Times DLC will launch for TWW3 on September 24.

And in case you weren’t familiar with how the End Times turns out for the Warhammer world, that’s only good news if you’re some sort of undead, or demon-thing, or rat-guy. However, given how prominently the new trailer features Grey Seer Thanquol, a skaven whose schemes are infamous for causing as much carnage—or more—for his fellow rat men than their intended targets, maybe everything will go fine in your personal campaign.

Provided he doesn’t, you know, successfully blow up the moon with a big warpstone gun. Fingers crossed, I suppose.

To go along with the release date drop and cinematic, Creative Assembly also published a Lords of the End Times DLC overview, providing a summary look at the new gameplay that’ll accompany its four new Legendary Lords.

For example, campaign playthroughs as Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead will involve gathering his Mortarch lieutenants and his legendary lost Books to finally ascend to godhood and reshape the world into a sort of global skeleton zone. As one-eyed coolguy Boris Todbringer, players will channel Middenland’s battle fervor into empowering its Great Temple of Ulric, earning army bonuses in the process.

If you instead choose the Glottkin, the Rot-father’s favorite special boys, you’ll sow Gardens of Nurgle as you lay waste to the world, providing beneficial plagues and demonic Nurgle units from its festering depths. And as Thanquol, you will—as previously mentioned—scheme.

While Creative Assembly says those won’t “always go according to plan,” Thanquol will “see his grand and destructive plans realized” if you’re able to manage the collateral damage caused by your plotting. How hard can it be?

The studio also promises substantial free game updates coinciding with the Lords of the End Times launch, including gameplay overhauls for Vampire Counts and Archaon, new end game scenarios, and reworked victory conditions for every legendary lord.

And, “in a series first,” Creative Assembly says purchasing any Lords of the End Times DLC—either as a bundle or individually—will provide access to the massive Immortal Empires campaign mode, even if you don’t actually own any of the Total War: Warhammer games. It’s the most generous the end of days has ever been.

It’s been a bit since I’ve fired up a new Total War: Warhammer campaign, but the End Times sound like the perfect time to ease back into some grand strategy. Lords of the End Times launches on Steam on September 24.
