Grand Theft Auto 6, the most anticipated game of the year and possibly of all time, is now officially up for preorder (see here) for both its Standard Edition on PS5 and Xbox, priced at $79.99, and Ultimate Edition, priced at $99.99.
We’ve gathered all the information you might need in order to make an informed purchase, along with links to where you can preorder the game today.
Preorder Grand Theft Auto 6
Update: Amazon has already ‘sold out’ of preorders for PS5. Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target still have preorders for the standard edition available. For now, the Ultimate Edition is only live via PlayStation and Xbox’s digital storefronts. More to follow.
Priced from $79.99, preorders for “physical” copies of Grand Theft Auto 6 go live today — though you’ll only get a box containing a digital download code.
Physical copies will actually be available from November 12, ahead of the game’s full launch on November 19.
This earlier date is also when GTA 6 pre-loading will become available, allowing anyone with a physical copy or digital pre-order to get the game downloading.
Note that some retailers like Amazon won’t charge you for your purchase until it eventually ships, so if you’re looking to save up over the second half of the year, picking up a physical copy is likely your best bet.
GTA 6 Preorder Bonus – The Vintage Vice City Pack
The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with all digital purchases of GTA 6 made prior to November 20, 2026, and with preorders of the physical version of GTA 6 while supplies last.

GTA 6: Should I Preorder a Physical or Digital Copy?
The obvious counterpoint to the idea of “physically owning” GTA 6 takes a bit of a hit when you remember there’s no disc in the box, just a download code.
While this certainly isn’t ideal, and definitely won’t satify most physical media advocates, myself included, I can absolutely still see people wanting to own the box as a collector’s item, a memento, or simply a marker of gaming history.
And there’s no shame in that. Let’s be honest, this is probably going to be the biggest game launch of all time. I’ll be treating it as such, and you should too. (Still, it also would’ve been nice if they included a disc as well).
My second reason is a slightly more economic one. How sensible of me.
The global economy is a bit dicey right now (potentially understatement of the year, I know). Now, that’s not going to stop millions of people buying GTA 6, but an $80 price tag is definitely enough to make at least some of us hesitate. At least, that’s what Reddit commenters keep telling me, and they’re famously the most intelligent among us.
For anyone who’s not thrilled about paying $80 today for a digital copy, and then waiting several months to actually play the game (or simply doesn’t have the cash available right now) a physical preorder through retailers like Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy could make more sense.
Thanks to their preorder guarantees, these retailers won’t charge you until your order ships. So if you’re planning to spread the cost over the second half of the year, a physical preorder may actually be the smarter option.
Still, at the end of the day, this is entirely subjective. Just do whatever is best for you. Want to buy digitally? Go for it. Fancy a physical copy to delay the cost, or as a collector’s item? Crack on!

What Is GTA 6?
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set in Leonida, the GTA-universe version of Florida, where Vice City is located. Based on the trailers, it looks like you’ll spend plenty of time in Vice City, but this isn’t the 1980s version of the city from the 2002 game.
GTA 6 is set in the modern day, and the scope of the game expands well beyond the bounds of the urban area. In fact, it might represent the entire state. You’ll visit the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers marshland, Mount Kalaga National Park, among other locations.
The game centers on outlaws in love, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, who get roped into a wide-ranging criminal conspiracy. Much of what we know about the game comes from the trailers, which Rockstar has been oh-so gradually dropping onto the internet once a year since 2023.
GTA 6 Trailer 2
Moving backwards in time, the second trailer came out on May 6, 2025.
This trailer, set to The Pointer Sisters’ song “Hot Together,” zeroes in on protagonist Jason Duval as he goes about his day, doing house work, collecting rent checks for a relative, and picking up his girlfriend, Lucia Caminos, when she’s released from prison. They seem to have a healthy, loving relationship, but they can’t seem to stop doing crimes, Bonnie and Clyde-style.
According to the trailer’s description, “when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.“
GTA 6 Trailer 1
Rockstar released the first trailer on December 4, 2023. Set to the Tom Petty song “Love Is a Long Road,” it shows off the Florida – er, Leonida – setting, with beaches, cities, and swamp areas. It also introduces the dual protagonists, Lucia and Jason.
Note that this trailer says the game is coming in 2025, but it was later delayed until May 2026, and then, even later, delayed again to its current release date of November 19, 2026.
