Fortnite Begins Reselling Old Battle Pass Skins in Next Update

Fortnite will begin reselling content from old battle passes as part of its next update.

The scheme will start off with skins from Chapter 5 Season 4: Absolute Doom, which was Fortnite’s most recent Marvel-dedicated season that ran from August 16 to November 2, 2024.

This included Marvel characters such as Doctor Doom, Mysterio, Shuri, War Machine, Gwenpool and Emma Frost, as well as a Captain America version of Fortnite character Jonesy. All are now expected to imminently return via Fortnite’s in-game shop.

Fortnite previously pledged to never resell content released as part of its time-limited battle passes, a policy that made them must-have purchases at the time, but ultimately served to only lock newer players out of characters released years ago.

As Fortnite edges closer to its 10th birthday, Epic Games decided to drop this policy from 2024 onwards, beginning with the Ultimate Doom season — though still said that battle pass content would not be sold separately for 18 months. (And, of course, the price of a season pass remains far less than the cost of buying all of its characters separately, with battle passes selling for around $10 — about the same price in V-Bucks for some individual skins.)

Of course, that 18 month time period has now lapsed for the Absolute Doom season — and fans had been wondering when it would reappear. Now, in a teaser released via X/Twitter, Epic Games has shown the vault doors opening back to this content, which fans have reacted positively towards.

While a major change in policy, the practice of selling newer battle pass content is likely a win-win for Epic Games. It gets to re-monetize characters individually at a huge markup, and players don’t feel FOMO to buy battle passes at the time.

It’s a typically busy time for Fortnite, with its next update rolling out tomorrow loaded with additions, before Epic Games departs for its annual two-week summer break. Other content coming to the game over the next fortnight includes a major collaboration with popstar Olivia Rodrigo, and a crossover with Neopets.
