How to infiltrate the hotel in 007 First Light by finding the press badge or stealthing through the window

After getting through the intensely long tutorial section, your first real test of spycraft in 007 First Light is figuring out how to infiltrate the hotel during Bond’s mission in Slovakia. If you’re a Hitman vet, you’ll have already cased the routes in and may be going for the related achievements. If this is your first jaunt with an IOI stealth game though, this is your first real chance to try figuring out how to finagle your way into restricted areas and past pesky guards. Here’s every way to infiltrate the hotel.

How to infiltrate the hotel in 007 First Light

  • Find the press badge
  • Create a diversion with a lighter
  • Distract the security guards

Find the press badge

  1. Eavesdrop on the journalist on the terrace
  2. Swipe the press badge from the flower pot
  3. Present your badge at the security checkpoint

The solution that First Light will try to point you towards is stealing a press badge for a bit of charming Bond social engineering at the back entrance to the hotel. There’s a security checkpoint you can get through if you manage to find an ID badge.

You can get a tip off to the press badge location by eavesdropping on a nearby journalist wearing a tan pantsuit off to the left as you walk up to the top of the outdoor terrace. She’s stashed her colleague’s badge in a flower pot on the lower level. It’s just down the staircase you just came up in a grey concrete pot on the railing by the decorative, boarded up well.

There’s also a second press badge you can nab hidden in a metal case inside the security tent. You’ll need to use the dart phone on the guard standing beside it then sneak behind the other guard to quickly pilfer the badge. That one will be for the speedrunners, because grabbing the one in the flower pot is easier.

Create a diversion

  1. Steal a lighter from the man nearby
  2. Ignite a pile of dried leaves
  3. Climb over the ledge to reach the open window

If you want to get in completely unseen, you can create a distraction on the terrace. First you need to nab a lighter. You can find one with the staffer sitting on a bench talking with a maid nearby or with the man looking at his phone on a bench one level below. For either case, follow the trail of the yellow garden hose at his feet and turn it on to distract him from his spot. While he’s looking away, you can swipe his light.

On the top level terrace, find the wheelbarrow of dry leaves off to the left of the security checkpoint entrance. Set fire to the debris and the one guy watching the nearby ledge will walk away in alarm. While he’s away, vault over the railing then climb along the ledge, up the drain pipe to the next level, and across the ledge to the open window directly above the security tent. Nobody will see you doing it, somehow!

Distract the security guards

The most versatile way into the hotel is to get past the security guards on the right side of the terrace past the press checkpoint tent. You can use basically all of Bond’s different strategies here: bluffing, gadgets, and pure stealth:

  • Bluff: With enough “instinct” (the lighting symbol) you can bluff past the guards. You won’t initially have enough, but you can get a couple extra instinct points from eavesdropping on that journalist as mentioned above.
  • Gadgets: For the Hitman players among us who love incapacitating guards, you can distract one guard by turning on the nearby hose and the other with the dart phone to sneak through.
  • Stealth: The easiest way in is actually just vaulting the fence into the flower bed behind the guard sitting and looking at his phone. Stick to the flowers around the perimeter and hop the railing to stealth along the back side until you can hop back to the inside of the railing and crouch your way over to a drain pipe. Once you’re up on the next floor, hang climb around to that same open window right above the security tent.
