2XKO’s latest fuse could be exactly what the game needs to survive

The FGC is a bit shook by the new fuse in 2XKO. But not for the reason you may think.

Teamfight is the latest fuse, dropping May 12th. A fuse in 2XKO is a team-wide gameplay modifier chosen during character select, allowing players to have a specific advantage or playstyle. The newest one, Teamfight, lets two champions appear on-screen at once for 7 seconds.

It literally sounds insane.

FGC Think Teamfight Points to a Big Change in 2XKO Going Forward

While Teamfight sounds pretty intense to face, it could end up being balanced. The two champions can simultaneously fight for seven seconds, but you gotta spend one bar of meter each. Still, getting beat up by two champions at once sounds awfully frustrating.

However, it’s not really Teamfight’s overwhelming nature that has the FGC speculating. Players are more wondering if 2XKO is moving towards a duo-focused gameplay strategy. While solo players can use Teamfight (“for a more improvisational, chaotic flavor of gameplay”), this is clearly a much more effective fuse for a two-player team.

Said one player on Reddit: “They’re finally leaning into duos. This fuse will probably be controversial because it seems like it’ll give duos an advantage, but I’m for it. Lean into the thing you offer.”

Honestly, I see nothing wrong with 2XKO leaning into duos. In fact, it may be the only way to keep the game alive past 2028.

And 2XKO Needs a Big Change to Survive

I think as a solo game, 2XKO is in trouble. I’ve said it quite a few times by now, but I’ll say it again (gladly): 2XKO is too complicated to appeal to the general FGC, and Riot’s approach ended up hindering its growth even more.

Riot believed from the start it could transcend the FGC and make 2XKO a mainstream game due to its roots in League of Legends. It leaned into expensive skins and corny sponsorships, which ultimately led to the fighting game failing within the FGC. Since Riot hoped it would appeal to the masses, 2XKO’s niche appeal led to mass layoffs.

This has significantly hindered the game’s marketing, esports efforts, and quality of gameplay. The activation animation has gotten more attention than the fuse itself. It’s an empty green screen, which is hardly dynamic or exciting, especially compared to past activation animations.

You can really see the impact of the layoffs with the activation animation 💀 https://t.co/TyBBDg0gCT

I think if 2XKO leans into duos a bit more, it could lead to more success in esports. Watching two pros on stage working together would offer fans something different than other mainstream games. While Super Smash Bros. has duos events, most FGC focus on the intensity of the 1v1 dynamic. This could bring interesting strategy, storylines, rivalries, and just more unique stuff to watch.

If 2XKO wants to survive, it needs to stand out. If not, it’ll become just another anime side event that fades into the distance. Becoming a 2v2 spectacle could make it unique.
