Finding a great deal on a PlayStation 5 has become significantly harder since Sony’s brutal price hikes just a few weeks back. Yet, quite bizarrely, the price changes have also inadvertently turned a Ghost of Yotei PS5 bundle into a surprisingly strong offering for late adopters of the console.

While it seems a tad oxymoronic to say that price increases have somehow made this a much better deal, it’s a lot better than you might think.

Let me break this down for you. Last year, when the Ghost of Yotei bundle first launched, it was priced at $599.99. That was $50 more than the PS5’s previous standard MSRP of $549.99, but still a reasonable $20 saving when compared to buying the game and console separately.

Yet, because a standard PS5 is now $100 more in 2026, the bundle’s actual value proposition is now leagues better than before:

  • New PS5 Disc Edition MSRP: $649.99
  • Ghost of Yotei Standard Price: $69.99
  • Total Value: ~$720
  • Bundle Price: $599.99

As the bundle includes both the PS5 console and a Ghost of Yotei download code, you are actually saving closer to $120 overall on your purchase.

That’s also ignoring the fact that this is a highly sought-after bundle, featuring a custom console and matching DualSense controller decorated with artwork of the lands surrounding Mount Yotei.

So what’s the catch? Well… it’s a short-term win at best, in all honesty. “When it’s gone, it’s gone!” and limited edition bundles like this don’t tend to come back. It also doesn’t quite stack up to last year’s Black Friday offers, where this particular PS5 bundle fell as low as $499.

That said, the context still matters.

Plenty of buyers rushed to grab a PS5 before Sony’s latest price increases hit, but anyone who missed that window is now facing a much steeper cost of entry.

With the standard PS5 Disc Edition now sitting at $649.99 and the Digital Edition at $599.99, jumping in requires a far bigger investment than it did just a few months ago.

That’s where this bundle starts to make more sense. If recent reports hold and Ghost of Yotei remains a PS5 exclusive (i.e, it won’t be coming to PC), it reframes things entirely.

For anyone planning to play the game without already owning the console, this is realistically the most sensible way in right now. Even if it’s still not touching the highs of last year’s discounts, it’s simply good value for purely dodging the recent price hikes.

PS5: More Deals That Avoid the Recent Price Hikes

But, don’t get me wrong, it’s still 600 big ones, and that’s a hefty price to pay, even if it does include a fancy smancy console and game to boot.

So, if you’re purely chasing the lowest possible price on a PS5 right now, may I also recommend checking out the Digital Edition Fortnite bundle instead.

It was a decent offer during Black Friday last year, but in the context of today’s higher prices, it now looks like a genuine bargain at $399 (saving you $200 versus the standard digital console).

If you’re planning to pick up a PS5 this year, especially with that GTA 6 release looming in November, it’s worth moving sooner rather than later.

Take it from me, writing about this stuff everyday, these kinds of deals aren’t built to last. We’ve already seen the Disc Edition drop to $449 and sell out across retailers, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Digital bundle follow the same path.

Beyond that, it’s also worth keeping an eye on “Certified Refurbished” options through PlayStation Direct as well. They’re one of the few remaining ways to sidestep the recent price hikes entirely.

Right now, the original 2020 PS5 with a disc drive is sitting at $399 refurbished, while the Slim Digital comes in at $499 and the Slim Disc at $549, essentially lining up with what new consoles were going for before prices jumped.
