Riot Details New Legends, Mechanics, and More for Riftbound’s Third Set, Unleashed

Riftbound, the League of Legends trading card game, has been one of the hottest new TCG’s on the market since it was released in the West on Halloween of last year. Since launch, we’ve seen two full expansion releases in Origins and Spiritforged. This week, reveals for the third set, titled Unleashed, begin, with new Legends, mechanics, and changes to shake up how we play the game.

Unleashed is set to launch April 10 in China, with an English release date of May 8. Be sure to check back with IGN on March 23 for our very own exclusive preview card.

Riftbound Spiritforged Cards

Like Spiritforged before it, Unleashed will introduce a host of new mechanics, Legends, and card designs through its over 200 new cards. Since Equipment and Gold tokens with the previous set aimed to stay true to the League of Legend mechanics the TCG is based around, Unleashed expands on this concept with its new abilities. Here’s how they work:

  • Ambush: Unit cards with the Ambush keyword can be played at Reaction speed to a Battlefield you have units, making them good combat tricks on both offense and defense.
  • Hunt: Hunt is the new ability that will inform Unleashed’s new static ability XP. Whenever you conquer or hold a Battlefield, you’ll gain 1 XP to be used in various ways depending on your deck.
  • XP: This is a new resource system that is built up throughout a game of Riftbound by different card abilities. Hunt appears to be the main way to accrue XP.

Aside from new abilities, Unleashed will be introducing 12 new playable Legend cards from which players will build their decks around. New confirmed Legends include Diana, Scorn of the Moon and Lillia, Bashful Bloom, with Origins Proving Grounds Legend Master Yi receiving a new Legend card, making him the first character to have multiple Legends.

Token cards play a large role in Unleashed, with a handful of new cards even creating token Battlefields, and Reflections are tokens created as copies of Units already in play. These will offer a deeper level of strategy and planning in any given match, and will likely affect how competitive players decide to configure their decks. For collectors, this set also introduces the Ultimate Rarity, a unique spin on Overnumbered cards that will only appear in less than one percent of all Unleashed booster packs. Only one Ultimate Rare is in this set — the previously-revealed Baron Nashor.
