Pokopia’s Popularity Causes Sudden Spike in Demand and Price for Ditto Pokémon Cards

The record-breaking debut of Pokémon Pokopia – Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s personality-packed building simulator – has had an unintended impact on the Pokémon TCG market this week. Selling a whopping 2.2 million copies in its opening weekend, it seems like everyone on the internet has fallen in love with Ditto – the classic transformation Pokémon – all over again. This release has seen some Ditto card variants skyrocket by as much as 174%.

If you’re looking to add this versatile Generation 1 ‘Mon to your collection, you might be paying a premium for a while. It’s a good time to clean out your binder of Ditto cards if you’re looking to sell yourself! Below are the most significant Ditto price spikes since the launch of Pokémon Pokopia.

Ditto (Triumphant) – 17/102

First up, the Ditto 17/102 HeartGold & Soulsilver HGSS Triumphant Reverse Holo card is up +$4.26, coming in at a historic high of $12.95. While that may not seem like a huge price tag, it’s a 49% increase in a week. This vintage collectible was released in 2010, with alternative art of Ditto. If you’ve got this card knocking around in your childhood collection, now might be the time to part ways!

Reverse Holofoil Ditto – 108/149

Next, we shift our focus to a hidden gem from the Black & White era. The Reverse Holofoil Ditto #108/149 from Boundaries Crossed has seen a massive 40% climb this week, jumping from $25 to a solid $35. As supply for Near Mint copies dries up on TCGPlayer, $35 is likely the new normal for this decade-old classic, while Pokémon Pokopia continues to trend.

Ditto (Squirtle) – 040/113

However, the biggest spike comes from the Delta Species Ditto – 040/113 (Squirtle) card. At time of writing, this adorable reverse holofoil is sitting at a massive $245 on TCGMarketNews, up from $89. That’s a whopping $156 profit – up 174% since the launch of Pokémon Pokopia.

But what about the Bulbasaur and Charmander Ditto cards from the same set?

Ditto (Charmander) – 037/113

Well, Charmander is seeing a much more modest move. A 0.7% increase of $0.26 to $36.88 is technically an all-time high for the card, but it lacks the aggressive velocity of others. You’d be better off investing in Charizard cards, which are still spiking up from earlier this month.

Ditto (Bulbasaur)

The data for Ditto Bulbasaur, however, is a rollercoaster. While it’s up 4.5% this week, it’s actually down from its all-time high of $81.01 on March 11, 2026, immediately following the Pokémon Pokopia release. This suggests that the initial buy-in phase has peaked, and demand is starting to fall. Still, when you compare today’s price to its $18.16 all-time low in August 2024, the growth is staggering.

However, this dip suggests it’s likely Ditto cards will return to normal prices after the Pokémon Pokopia hype dies down.

Interestingly, this surge in the TCG reflects a wider market pattern we saw with Generation 1 Pokemon cards earlier this month, coinciding with the 30th Anniversary. The first look at Generation 10 (Pokémon Winds and Waves) and its new starters, as well as the surprise re-release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch was a perfect combo of childhood nostalgia and excitement for the future of the franchise to send Generation 1 Pokemon cards spiking.

Want to get your hands on a Ditto card to accompany you as you restore the Withered Wasteland? These price spikes mean people are listing Ditto singles every day on TCGPlayer, but be quick! These cards are selling quicker than usual.
