Former Call of Duty world champion Kenny ‘Kenny‘ Williams has opened up on his future plans following his recent departure from Los Angeles Thieves.

After parting ways with the Call of Duty League (CDL) franchise in February, Kenny has expressed his interest in transitioning into a coaching role.

During a recent live stream, Kenny revealed that he is choosing not to compete in the CDL for the time being after struggling to find form during the opening wave of online qualifiers and the first Major of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 season.

In addition to shedding light on the future of his playing career, the 2024 CDL champion shared that he is open to coaching a Challengers roster competing in online and open LAN tournaments.

“I’m not playing in Stage 2 because I have no offers, I’m just saying no,” said Kenny on stream. “I will say this, I am open to coaching. I don’t know if that’s CDL-level coaching, but Challengers coaching sounds interesting to me. It would have to be the right situation.”

While Kenny considers his next career path, several teams are continuing to make roster changes as the race for a spot in the second Major at DreamHack Birmingham begins to heat up. On March 3rd, Vancouver Surge announced the departure of Ronald ‘Abe‘ Abraham as the team searches for its second victory of the Major 2 qualifiers.

A Transition To Coach

Kenny wouldn’t be the first Call of Duty player to move into a coaching role following a playing career filled with success.

In recent years, the likes of three-time world champion Damon ‘Karma‘ Barlow and two-time champion James ‘Crowder’ Crowder have successfully moved into the role to guide the next generation of talent to championship glory.

With Kenny still receiving offers to compete at the highest level, it will be interesting to see whether the former world champion returns to competition or seeks another challenge within the Call of Duty esports scene.
