From Visual Novel To Fortnite, Here’s A Brief History of Invincible in Video Games

Invincible VS may be the biggest video game starring the titular hero and his friends (as well as Game Informer's current cover story), but it’s not the only one. It’s easy to overlook how the popular comic/animated series has steadily infiltrated the realm of video games for years now, and its presence is seemingly growing alongside its popularity. With the series about to hit its highest video game peak yet in Invincible VS, let's look back at the franchise’s other video game appearances, in chronological order, to see how far it’s come.  Mortal Kombat 1: Omni-Man DLC Developer: NetherRealm Studios – Release Date: November 9, 2023 Omni-Man was the first Invinicible character to make his fighting game debut as a guest kombatant in the most recent entry in the celebrated series. Swooping in alongside fellow morally questionable guest superheroes Homelander and Peacemaker, the unwavering brutality of Invincible’s powerful papa proved a perfect fit for the famously violent franchise. In our Invincible VS cover story, developer Quarter Up even confirmed that Omni-Man’s Mortal Kombat appearance helped inspire his design in the upcoming fighter.  Invincible Presents: Atom Eve Developer: Terrible Posture Games - Release Date: November 14, 2023 Despite Invincible debuting in 2003, fans had to wait 20 years before it received its first fully licensed video game, and it would instead star Mark Grayson’s closest ally, Atom Eve. This choice-driven visual novel game puts players in the boots of the matter-manipulating hero as she navigates her not-so-ordinary life. Decisions affect Eve’s relationships with friends and allies, as well as her combat skills for the RPG-style battles. The game also boasts a killer comic-book-inspired presentation. You can watch us play Eve’s solo adventure in this episode of New Gameplay Today.  Fortnite: Guardians of the Globe Pack Developer: Epic Games – Release Date: November 25, 2023 Given the sheer amount of media franchises that have been airdropped into Fortnite, it’s no surprise that Invincible found its way into the hit battle royale. For only a couple of months in late 2023, players could purchase a cosmetics pack that granted character skins of Invincible, Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Allen, and Dupli-Kate. One rather grim but thematically appropriate cosmetic was a backpack modeled after The Immortal’s severed head. These unlockables were removed from the game in September 2025, and who knows when or if they’ll return.  Invincible: Guarding the Globe Developer: Ubisoft Barcelona Mobile – Release Date: February 19, 2024 As Invincible further dipped its toe into video games, like many licensed non-big-budget titles before it, the franchise made a pit stop on mobile devices. Invincible: Guarding the Globe was developed and published by Ubisoft and is an idle squad RPG with gacha mechanics. Players worked alongside Cecil Stedman in the Global Defense Agency to recruit, manage, and deploy superheroes to handle various crises around Earth; the plot, meanwhile, centered on an army of cloned heroes. Gameplay-wise, players assembled teams of heroes with various roles to battle enemies in AFK idle battles.   Funko Fusion Developer: 1010 Games – Release Date: November 21, 2024 Funko Fusion is basically the video game version of Ready Player One, featuring numerous franchises co-mingling in a giant crossover adventure. Thus, it's no surprise that Invincible is counted among the game's litany of licensed cameos. Funko-fied versions of Invincible and Omni-Man represent in the base adventure, and a 2024 Invincible DLC pack added playable characters Atom Eve and Rex Splode to the mix.   Invincible VS Developer: Quarter Up – Release Date: April 30, 2026 This upcoming 3v3 tag fighter is the franchise's biggest and most exciting foray into video games yet. Featuring a roster of 18 playable characters (and more to come in post-launch DLC), players throw down in fast-paced, chaotic battles reminiscent of Marvel vs. Capcom. Invincible's signature violence has also been replicated in all its nigh-uncomfortable bloody glory. Developer Quarter Up is led by the minds behind 2013's Killer Instinct, who apply that game's combo-centric, easy-to-execute gameplay to a new template. While Invincible's previous video game outings have been respectable if not fascinating experiences to study as a fan, Invincible VS seems poised to offer the most substantial and, hopefully, entertaining adaptation to date.   To learn more about the latest Invincible game, Invincible VS, be sure to subscribe to read our digital cover story. You can also check out these online features detailing gameplay for Dupli-Kate as well as the game’s cinematic story mode.
