North American esports franchise OpTic Texas will host this year’s Call of Duty League Championships.

The event, set to run July 18th – 21st, will take place at the Credit Union of Texas Event Centre in Allen, Texas.

The Call of Duty League Championship is the last tournament of the competitive CoD season. Since Call of Duty franchising in 2020, the season-ending event has been held at the Galen Center in Los Angeles and Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Last year’s CDL Championship in Las Vegas was won by the New York Subliners.

Similar to previous years, the Call of Duty League Championships will feature the top eight CoD League franchises. This year the teams will compete for a lion’s share of its $2m (~£1.6m) prize pool.

It has also been announced that the tournament will be sponsored by Dallas-based fast-food chain Wingstop, bean bag brand CordaRoy’s and non-profit regional dairy council Dairy MAX. Two gaming brands — Razer and SCUF — have also been named as sponsors. In addition to the event sponsors, Call of Duty League partners such as energy drink brand Monster will have on-site activations.

The four-day event is also said to include a variety of other fan engagement opportunities including meet and greets with OpTic content creators and watch parties. According to a release, specific sponsor activations will be announced closer to the event.

Daniel Tsay, General Manager of Call of Duty Esports, commented: “The Call of Duty League is one the largest esports ventures in the world and we’re excited to close out our 5th season with our fans in Texas for Champs.

“Champs is our biggest moment of the year and we know our players and fans will thrive in the high-energy environment that the OpTic team and the Green Wall are sure to bring.”

The announcement of OpTic Texas hosting this year’s CoD League Championships follows on from the major development that Call of Duty League has eliminated all outstanding entry fees that franchises owe. Moreover, the competition highlighted supporting team-organised events such as Majors, Opens or Champs.
