Best Nintendo Switch Controllers

The Nintendo Switch has continued the company’s tradition of producing challenging but fun games. The brand is associated with a retro aesthetic, but it has evolved for a modern audience over the years. The Switch is the company’s first hybrid console – it is a portable device that can also be connected to a television screen.

You’ll need a controller to play the top Switch fighting games on a television screen, and there are quite a few controllers to choose from. Here’s a brief look at the best Nintendo Switch controllers on the market:

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

@ TechRadar

The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is the standard Switch controller and arguably the best that you can buy . You’ll usually get this controller along with the Nintendo Switch, but if you don’t, it’s definitely worth picking up along with the console.

The Joy-Cons that come with the Switch are a fun edition and suitable for flagship titles like Mario Kart and Smash Bros,  but they aren’t ideal in the long run. The Switch Pro Controller has a full D-pad, HD Rumble, NFC for Amiibo scanning, and motion controls. It’s usually available for $60 to $70.

PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller

@ Nintendo

If you’re looking for a cheaper third-party controller, the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller is a pretty good option. It’s not that different from the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in terms of the feel and design and is available in the $40-50 price range.

The PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller lacks HD Rumble, IR, and Amiibo NFC support, but it has motion control. It also has two extra buttons and a built-in rechargeable battery.

8BitDo SN30 Pro Plus Bluetooth Gamepad

@ 8BitDo

The 8BitDo SN30 Pro Plus Bluetooth Gamepad is a good choice if you enjoy experimenting.  This device helps you remap buttons and adjust the trigger sensitivity and vibration. It’s designed like a PlayStation controller – if you are used to the Sony device, this is a great option. It has a rechargeable battery and is available for $50.

PowerA Nano Enhanced Wireless Controller

@ Nintendo

This is a smaller version of the popular Power Enhanced Controllers but looks very similar. It has motion controls, rumble, mappable buttons, in-built rechargeable battery. It’s ideal for travel, and kids will have no trouble using it. It is available for $50.

8BitDo SN30 Pro Bluetooth Gamepad Controller

@ 8BitDo

The 8BitDO SN30 Pro Bluetooth Gamepad Controller looks a lot like the SNES controller. If you’re looking for something with a retro aesthetic, this should be right up your alley. It’s also travel-friendly because of its size. It is available for $50.

Horipad Nintendo Switch Wired Controller

@ Nintendo

The Hopriad Nintendo Switch Wires Controller is the most cost-effective controller on this list. It is available for $20. It is quite a comfortable controller but lacks some of the features that the other controllers on this list have. It doesn’t have a turbo button and lacks vibration and motion control. Of course, wired controllers aren’t ideal in 2023, but it’s a solid option.
