F-Zero 99 Announced for Nintendo Switch, and It's Out Today

F-Zero 99, a battle-royale based on the original F-Zero game that will pit 99 players against each other in a high-stakes race where only one racer will come out victorious, was announced for Nintendo Switch. Oh, and it’s out today for free for Nintendo Switch Online members!

F-Zero first launched on the SNES in 1990 in Japan and in 1991 in North America, and this new game will feature the original’s classic tracks and machines with a twist. In this race, each player will have a power meter that will decrease if you crash into other pilots or guardrails. Once it gets down to zero, you are out of the race.

You can, however, take a bit of a risk by using some of your power meter to get a temporary new boost to get the edge on your enemies. There will also be Super Sparks that will appear when machines collide. When you collect enough Super Sparks, players will be able to jump to a Skyway which is basically another track above the original that will let you bypass other racers.

Players will have the opportunity to complete goals while racing which will then unlock new colors, decals, and boost colors for your machines.
