This year has seen the release of a truly absurd number of excellent games. One of the first to hit shelves, all the way back in March, was a from-the-ground-up remake of the all-time classic Resident Evil 4. It’s safe to say the remake was successful, earning a 10/10 “masterpiece” rating in our review. So here’s some good news for horror game fans heading into spooky Halloween season: all console versions of RE4 Remake are on sale for $39.99 at Best Buy. Amazon has the PS4 version on sale for the same price.
Resident Evil 4 Deal
Capcom has been absolutely killing it with Resident Evil games in recent years. That includes original games (Resident Evil 7 and Village), but it also includes remakes of the older games from the ’90s and early ’00s. The remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 were both fantastic, so it’s no surprise the development team brought the same skills when reimagining Resident Evil 4.
The original RE4 landed on the Gamecube in 2005. Compared to its slower-paced predecessors, it was more of an action game, with hordes of enemies and big, memorable boss fights. It also ditched the series’ traditional fixed-camera perspective and dropped the camera down into the action, right behind the hero. Despite these improvements, it still looks and feels pretty clunky to play today. Thankfully, this remake brings all the brilliance of the original game up to date by packaging it in a fully modern 2023 shell.
From our Resident Evil 4 review: “This fully revitalized campaign dramatically one-ups the original in almost every conceivable way. Its Spanish countryside setting is substantially more sinister, its pacing has been tightened to the point where hardly a single minute is wasted, and its controls have been modernized in order to allow its signature dynamic shooting mechanics to really shine. I’ve been waiting 18 years for a game to thrill me in the same way as Resident Evil 4; as it turns out, this whole time I’ve just been waiting for another Resident Evil 4.”
This fall has no shortage of major games — just look at the list of upcoming video game release dates. But those will release at full price, making now a good time to pick up this 2023 masterpiece at a 33% discount.
