Ludwig and YouTube Reveal Tournament to Find True GOAT of Esports

It’s no big secret that the esports industry is dramatically diverse. From the global nature of it to the dozens of games that make up the ecosystem, there’s plenty of variation that keeps things fresh and ensures that every kind of gamer is catered for. That’s a concept that’s being explored by Ludwig and YouTube Gaming, as between the 2nd and 3rd of September, a unique tournament will take place to determine which gamer from within that ecosystem truly is the GOAT.

They might be a professional VALORANT competitor or a Super Smash legend – but they’ll have their skills tested across a range of games at this tournament. It appears to be an event that’s geared ever so slightly towards the younger fans, given the line-up, but some top-tier talent, such as VALORANT’s TenZ, has already been confirmed as making an appearance.

Who Really is the GOAT of Esports?

There will be sixteen players taking to the stage between the 2nd and 3rd of September at an undisclosed location, and the entire event is backed by both YouTube Gaming and Ludwig. The ‘World’s Greatest’ tournament will whittle down those sixteen players across a range of games to decide once and for all which among them can be considered the GOAT of esports.

Here’s the trailer for the event:

It’ll be interesting to see who else is included in this event. It doesn’t appear to be too hardcore, so we’re not sure if we’ll see some of the biggest names in esports take to the stage. For instance, could we expect to see CSGO’s s1mple, Call of Duty’s Scump, League of Legends’ Faker, or one of the best Dota 2 players in the world right now make an appearance?

Here are the games that we know they’ll be competing on:

Street Fighter 6
Minecraft
Fall Guys
2K Drive
XDefiant
Tetris
Trackmania

It’s not yet known if that’s the complete list or if more games will be confirmed at a later date, but you can now understand why we’ve said the tournament appears to be aimed at the younger fans.

Are Exhibition Tournaments Any Fun?

Exhibition tournaments like this one certainly are entertaining – even if there aren’t millions of dollars on the line and hundreds of thousands of people watching. It’s a fantastic change of pace from the intense, high-octane competitive scenes we witness every day in the esports industry, and it’s a chance for some of the best competitors to chill out and do something to humanise themselves a little.

It’s always nice to see a little innovation, and this isn’t the time that Ludwig, the streaming phenomenon, has put together an event like this. He’s well known for his efforts to push the envelope in content creation in gaming, and once upon a time, he held the record for the most subscribers in a single Twitch stream.

So, he’s got the clout to pull this off and potentially draw in more than a few viewers.

The World’s Greatest tournament kicks off September 2nd – more information will be available soon.
