After months of quietness, Riot Games gave fans new gameplay clips for their fighting game Project L, alongside other important news.

Riot Games confirmed Project L will feature 2vs2 game modes
In a new dev update shared by Riot Games on July 26, the Project L team gave a first taste to its fans by showcasing the new gameplay clips, while also announcing that the game will be a 2v2 team-based fighting game. Each player will have the ability to pilot a single champion, working like a “tag team wrestling”, according to game director Shaun Rivera. “One player controls the champion on stage, and the other waits offscreen for their teammate to find the right moment to tag them in”.
That said, solo players can be reassured: Project L will also feature one-vs-one and two-vs-one matchups, with the single player being able to pilot two champions at once, alternating on the field.

Riot wants to reward strong teamplay in Project L
While we already got the chance to see a few glimpses of gameplay in the past, the devs went deeper into aspects of the game, introducing the Fuse system.

“With fuses, you can choose between powerful synergies that change up your duo’s playstyle and really allow player expression to shine,” Rivera continued. “Teamplay is at the heart of Project L’s design and the foundation of the game overall.”
The devs are aware that it can be hard to get right and balance, but they want “Duo play to be special for players to enjoy and master”.
Fans will be able to try the demo version at Evo 2023 next week
To round off the great news, executive producer Tom Cannon announced that Project L will be playable at Evo 2023 on August 4 and 5. And most importantly, no signup will be required.
The lucky ones will be able to try four different champions available. For those who will not be able to attend the event, you can still check out a full gameplay match played by Riot’s game designers.
After years of waiting, it looks like Project L is finally coming alive. And with LoL Arena already giving players a first taste of what a 2v2 game mode might feel like, this will inevitably hype up the upcoming fighting game.
