Tekken 8 Base Roster Won’t Have Guest Characters

We’re getting into our first big trial for Tekken 8, the closed beta! This early access period is giving us a quick look at some of the Tekken 8 base roster. A developer behind the game has also talked a bit more about what we can expect from the game though, specifically the characters that we’ll get at the opening of the title.

Katsuhiro Harada, the producer of the game, has explained some of the thinking behind the Tekken 8 base roster. Specifically, it looks like we’re only getting traditional Tekken characters to start with.

Tekken 8 Base Roster Will Have No Guest Characters

Developers behind the game have explained that the game won’t be getting guest characters at launch. Instead, the game will be focusing on developing the “default characters”. that apparently applies to the traditional Tekken characters we’ve seen in past games and new characters in the world of Tekken. It does raise some questions about some bigger crossover characters though. Like if Akuma in Tekken will be making a return given their larger role in the story of the games recently.

The title already has a good amount of their playable characters unveiled, these are the fighters we’ve seen so far.

Kazuya Mishima
Asuka Kazama
Jun Kazama
Jin Kazama
King Lars Alexandersson
Nina Williams
Paul Phoenix
Marshall Law
Jack-8
Ling Xiaoyu
Leroy Smith
Lili Hwoarang
Cryan Fury
Claudio Serafino

Those are the characters we’ve already seen, but there might be more at launch. We do now know exactly what kind of characters we’re getting though.

While the Tekken 8 base roster won’t have guest characters, the final game definitely will! These will be characters we’ll likely get through DLC in the game. Fans will have to watch out over the early period of the game to see what kind of characters we’re getting. We already know quite a bit about the Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters that are coming. Hopefully, Tekken 9 has a similarly fun level of guest characters in the final roster.
