We’re coming up quickly on a new Mortal Kombat game, this time we’re once again going back to the very genesis of the series for a brand-new timeline. The Mortal Kombat 1 characters announced so far have just expanded though, another batch is confirmed thanks to the game’s panel at San Diego Comic Con. The new MK 1 characters confirmed even include half of the Mortal Kombat DLC characters we’ll eventually get!
The panel has included a few new details about the most anticipated upcoming fighting game. One of the most tantalizing reveals though is the roster additions. There are some unconventional picks. We’re getting the fun crossover characters that have become a big part of the series post-launch support. However, developers NetherRealm Studios are also delving further into the history of the series for some weirder picks.
New Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Characters Unveiled
The Comic Con announcements for Mortal Kombat 1 have most interestingly revealed quite a few details. Maybe the biggest though is the confirmation of the first round of MK 1 DLC characters. These are all of the names we saw announced.
Homelander
One of the headline new characters in the DLC is going to be Homelander. He’s a character we’ve known about since the original batch of Mortal Kombat 1 leaks, but it’s nice to see him confirmed. He’s the title character from the Boys but will be recognisable to even those utterly sick of superheroes from a good number of memes. Homelander translates pretty well into the game’s art style and apparently, his powers will make for some interesting kit in-game.
Omni-Man
The next of the “What is Superman was evil’ characters to make the MK 1 DLC roster is Omni-Man! He’s another character who has shot to popularity with a recent adaption, this one comes from Amazon’s Invincible. Just as with Homelander, he might be more recognisable to some from the “Think Mark” meme that took off at the release of the show. Omni-Man definitely has a unique look in MK’s more realistic art style.
Peacekeeper
Rounding out the crossover characters is Peacemaker. He’s the lead character in another superhero TV show, this time the DC series that shares a name with the character. As another character with unique powers, it’ll be interesting to see how they’re adapted to the world of Mortal Kombat.
Quan-Chi
Quan Chi is an anatomist character in Mortal Kombat who hasn’t been present fully for a little while. While he appears in Mortal Kombat 11 in a tiny place, he’s hardly a main character. He’s getting promoted to the full Mortal Kombat roster this time around! It’s nice to see some characters who have missed out recently make a comeback here.
Ermac
Ermac is another character getting promoted to a fuller position in the roster for MK 1. He’s going to be returning after a bit of a gap in appearances. Ermac has some interesting roots in the series. He first joined the roster back in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Prior to this though, there were rumours of a ninja with his design in the very first Mortal Kombat game!
Takeda
The last of the characters confirmed for the first batch of Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters in Takeda. While in older games and even being the main protagonist of MK X, he didn’t appear probably in MK 11. That’s being remedied with the release of this MK DLC!
Other New Characters
Alongside the new characters joining the DLC roster, we’ve also seen confirmation of a few other characters hitting the base roster. There’s Baraka, Tanya, Li Mei all coming in the game. The latter of which hasn’t actually been playable since Mortal Kombat Armageddon. That’s a PS2 fighting game which even the most devoted MK fans might have forgotten. Things are definitely getting interesting with the reveals right now, and we now know a lot more about what’s happening with post-game support too.
