A remake of Star Ocean: The Second Story, aptly titled Star Ocean: The Second Story R, will launch on Nintendo Switch on November 2.
Announced during June’s Nintendo Direct, the game features a full reimagining of the original with a modern take on the original pixel art with fused 2D and 3D graphics.
The science fantasy RPG follows Claude C. Kenny and Rena Lanford as they become involved in a sinister plot within the galaxy. Players will also encounter over a dozen potential allies to add to their cause.
Battles take place in real time with graphics reminiscent of Octopath Traveller. The trailer also shows airships, 2D towns, and all the other 90s RPG goodness.
It’s currently unclear if Star Ocean: The Second Story R will be coming to platforms outside Nintendo Switch.
In our 8/10 review of the original, IGN said: “Star Ocean is a one-of-a-kind game. It’s so full of optimization that’s it’s bound to be one of the classics for PlayStation.”
The Nintendo Direct featured a ton of other announcements, including that of a new 2D Mario game called Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a WarioWare game for Switch, a remaster of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and much more. Read about every announcement right here.
