Vondel Map Showcased in New Call of Duty Warzone Trailer

During the Summer Game Fest, an all-new trailer Call of Duty Warzone trailer was released, showcasing Vondel – the new Warzone map – in all its glory. It was only one minute long but it perfectly highlighted how hectic Vondel is going to be, boasting all the varied gameplay potential that we’ve come to expect from a Warzone environment. There’s a lot of content coming in the Season 04 update, which drops on June 14th, but the one thing that everyone is most excited about has to be Vondel.

It’s a land, sea, and air-based map, with vehicles being littered around the map that players can use to speed up combat. There’s a diverse array of POIs scattered around that offer up dynamic fights, with combat moving from high-up rooftops to boats speeding along the canals of Vondel. It promises to offer up high-octane, exciting experiences, and it’s just days away from dropping.

Vondel is Almost Here

It was a few weeks ago that Vondel first surfaced through leaks, but it wasn’t until the last few days that Activision actually acknowledged the existence of the map. It’s set in the heart of Amsterdam, which is made apparent by the sheer aesthetic of the environment. From the Dutch architecture to the close-knit canal structure, it’s unequivocally Amsterdam – check it out in the brand-new trailer:

Everyone seems to be quite excited, as there are some Verdansk vibes to be taken away from Vondel. We’ve had urban environments in almost every map since Verdansk – Caldera, Rebirth, Al Mazrah, and so on – but this is the first all-urban map that has dropped since 2020. There are no open spaces to traverse, which is one of the reasons why Caldera and Al Mazrah have never done as well as Verdansk – they’re just too open and unpopulated.

There’s even a nod to things to come in Warzone, as at the end of the trailer above, there’s a reference to the popular television series, The Boys. It’s one of the long-rumoured Call of Duty crossovers, and it could arrive this season in Warzone.

To The Future of Call of Duty

Vondel could spell a brief resurgence for Call of Duty Warzone (no pun intended) but it’ll all change for real when we receive confirmation of the next Call of Duty game. It has been suggested for several weeks that the next Call of Duty title will be named ‘Modern Warfare III‘, and it’ll be released in 2023, featuring an all-new Call of Duty Zombies experience and a brand-new Warzone map and overhaul.

There are also plenty of changes on the horizon for the Call of Duty League. In recent weeks, discussions have been ongoing regarding where the League itself is hosted. There are claims circulating that Activision is set to ink a deal with YouTube, bringing the Call of Duty League back to the platform exclusively for the next two years.

It’s a busy time for Call of Duty – let’s wait and see how it all unfolds.
