The PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) is still a few months away, yet all slots from Southeast Asia have been confirmed.
SEA is undoubtedly one of the biggest regions for PUBG Mobile Esports globally. This year, Tencent even began its first-ever partnered league in the region, called the PUBG Mobile Super League.
Thus, it’s not surprising to see the region get a lot of slots in the PMGC. In 2023, there will be a total of 11 teams from the region competing for the title of world champions. The PMGC 2023 hasn’t confirmed the total number of teams yet. Last year, though, the PMGC had 50 squads competing for the title.
How are the SEA slots being distributed in the PMGC 2023?
The PUBG Mobile Esports Indonesia Instagram account put out a graphic detailing the slots distribution. Five of the slots will come from the individual PMPLs in the region. The five PMPLs are held in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and SEA Wildcard.
Besides this, the top six teams from the PMSL SEA Fall 2023 will also seal a berth at the PMGC 2023.
The PMPL teams will be decided based on the overall points they accumulate throughout the PMPL season and also the PMSL SEA. If a team places in the top six in the PMSL and also has the most PMGC points in their PMPL region, then the slot will go to the next team in the region.
What teams are in contention for the spot?
So far, only the Spring Season of the tournament has wrapped up. However, Tencent has said that the points of the PMSL will also count towards the total points required for PMGC qualification. Thus, the partnered teams have a significant advantage over the other teams.
Nonetheless, it’s currently hard to predict who will reign supreme from each region based on the PMGC points. The PMPL fall season will begin immediately after the PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2023. The PMWI is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from July 11 to 16.
Thus, fans will have to wait until the end of the fall season to put together their odds on who will get the coveted PMGC slots.
PMGC 2023: What to expect?
Tencent hasn’t announced a lot of details about the PMGC. So far, Tencent has confirmed that the championship will take place as an offline event in Turkey. This will be the first major international event in Turkey, a region which is quickly growing in popularity for PUBG Mobile esports.
Additionally, the tournament will take place in November and December. This will be a change from the last two years, when the PMGC ran into January.
