Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is back with a bang in the South Asian country. After being restricted due to alleged data privacy concerns, the game has been temporarily unbanned for three months.
BGMI is the same game as PUBG Mobile but is currently one update behind. While the global version of the game has received the Version 2.6 update, BGMI is still stuck with Update 2.5. Other than this, there are some other big distinctions between BGMI and PUBG Mobile, and those are on the in-game violence and limits.

BGMI is back but with big restrictions
BGMI has always been one of the most popular titles in the country. This has further been justified by the game’s return to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Just days after its release, the game is currently sitting at number one in the top charts of both of the application stores.
Additionally, BGMI has started off with a bang for content creators as well. Professional athlete and streamer for GodLike Esports, Jonathan Gaming did a live stream which peaked at 98,000 concurrent viewers.
While all looks good, there is one thing still lingering about the game’s return. BGMI is currently on a three-month trial approval with the government keeping a close eye on issues like user harm and addiction before making a final decision.
To prevent this from happening, Krafton has placed several safeguards in BGMI as a part of its ‘game responsibly’ initiative.
Some of the initial measures from BGMI have been carried over. This includes the green blood, and virtual world message at the start of games.
On top of this, players under 18 years old will only be able to play for three hours per day. Users over the age of 18, on the other hand, will have a time limit of six hours per day. If you reach this limit, you will be taken to the login page with a message saying that you can play the game again the next day at 5:30 AM IST.
Is there a way around the restrictions?
While the restrictions are a positive sign for the game as it shows Krafton making an effort to follow the government’s guidelines, they can be bypassed very easily.
BGMI isn’t the first title to have in-game playtime restrictions. Even the Chinese version of PUBG Mobile, called Peacekeeper Elite, has restrictions. To enforce these, the game also uses face detection and ID verification.
BGMI isn’t doing this. The restrictions only apply to a specific account. If you reach the time limit, you can simply create a new account and play with that.
In fact, popular BGMI player and streamer Scout also said in a recent live stream that he plans on doing that as well. He said that he will be using one account for esports and the other for streaming.
Esports tournaments are already starting to come up for the game. Krafton has announced the BGMI Rising, which starts on June 1 with the top 64 squads from across the country competing.
