Lately, we’ve seen news about the new Mortal Kombat fly out thick and fast. We’ve heard it’s going to be a reboot, Mortal Kombat 1. We know more about potential characters. Initially, it looked like the Summer Games Fest was going to be the home for the Mortal Kombat 1 reveal, but more recently there’s been some hints that it’s coming even sooner. We might be learning about Mortal Kombat 1 reveal as soon as a PlayStation Showcase this week!
Mortal Kombat 1 Reveal Could be Coming This Week
The new Mortal Kombat is very much still in its teasing phase. We don’t have a whole lot of firm information, but we have plenty of Mortal Kombat leaks to look at! The lack of news is being teased by those involved in the game. Ed Boon, perhaps the man most associated with the franchise right now, has tweeted something which got fans excited for a Mortal Kombat 1 reveal.
The developer often teases things on Twitter ahead of official reveals. He’s recently tweeted out “This week should be fun”, spread out across lines in a tweet.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Mortal Kombat, but it would be pretty surprising if Ed Boon is just talking about a party he has on his calendar. This would put a reveal outside of the bigger events like Summer Games. However, other fans have made some connections to upcoming showcases.
Is a Reveal Coming at the PlayStation Showcase?
Most publishers don’t bother with E3 anymore. They run Nintendo-Direct-styled events where they broadcast trailers and tease new games. The Sony PlayStation Showcases have been home to quite a few reveals, even giving us a lot more information on titles like Street Fighter 6. A SF 6 PlayStation demo even launched early from one. Fans have pointed out that Ed Boon’s teasing might line up with the next PlayStation Showcase.
By the schedule so far, the next PlayStation Showcase could be happening in May or early June. The tease for Mortal Kombat 1 reveal makes it look to some like we might be getting one early. A showcase focused on a Mortal Kombat 1 reveal.
The new title is still scheduled to release this year. With so many other big fighting games on the horizon, there’s not much space for a brand-new MK. Getting started with unveiling and releasing content now would help build a bit more anticipation for the new sequel.
