In CS:GO utils are an essential part of high-level play. Because of this, there have been some incredible plays over the years in CS:GO Majors showing exactly how they’re best used to create iconic moments of greatness. We’ll be creating some CS:GO power rankings of the top three CS:GO Major utils plays of all time!
3. jdm64’s Flash to Win the Ace
This is definitely one of the more underrated CS:GO utils clips ever. The ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 moment goes forgotten among the CS:GO Major records, as it was irrelevant to the game’s outcome. But if you want to see what mastery of the flash grenade looks like in CS:GO Majors, look no further than jdm64’s 1v5 ace on Cache.
With EnVyUs on 15, any slip-up for Liquid meant the game was over. Left in the 1v5, jdm64 hit three perfect AWP shots to bring it down to two. Instead of swinging into the final two opponents, he bounced his flash against the roof on Cache, before turning the corner to kill the two completely blinded enemies. The level of calm on display to think that fast is remarkable, and even then he still had to actually hit the shots. He made a heart-pounding situation look remarkably easy, when the man himself would likely tell you it was anything but.
The play did lead to overtime for Liquid, but EnVyUs were able to take the win. If this led to a win, you can bet this CS:GO utils play would get the plaudits it deserves.
2. Dosia’s 200 IQ Nade
At the highest level of CS:GO Majors, the ability to think fast is arguably the most important element of success. PGL Major Kraków 2017 was witness to one of the quickest-thinking plays we’ve ever seen.
At 1-1, the Grand Final of the Major was proving to be a tight affair. Despite this, Gambit had begun to run away with the third map, but Immortals were about to snatch a round away to make it 9-2. Crucially, Immortals were about to save three AK-47s, and that didn’t sit well with Dosia.
There’s a spot on the old version of Inferno where players with full health could hide to avoid death from an A-site-planted bomb. Dosia had cleared every avenue, so he knew there had to be some players tucked away. In a moment of brilliance, he lobbed a grenade into the corner, bringing their HP down enough for the bomb to kill them.
So why is it so special? It’s important to note the economy here. Immortals have no money, and if they lose the weapons will face an awful buy in the next round, even with the round win. Even at 9-2, Dosia continued to look for every small advantage he can gain over the opponent to get the Major over the line. Gambit did in fact go on to win that match, and as a result the Major. For our money, this is one of the best examples of perfect CS:GO Major utils ever. Like many other CS:GO Major plays, he received a graffiti on Inferno for his efforts.

1. olofmeister’s Incendiary Defuse – CS:GO Utils Perfection
Okay, okay – we’re kind of cheating with this moment from ESL One Cologne 2014. The incendiary grenade in this clip wasn’t thrown by olofmeister, or even by his own team, but you can’t discuss the best CS:GO Major utils moments and not discuss this. It’s not just an iconic util moment – this is arguably the most iconic CS:GO moment of all time.
At 14-14, Dignitas vs Fnatic couldn’t have been closer. Dignitas planted the bomb, but Fnatic and olofmeister managed to play their way into a stronger position. As Fnatic began to converge on the bomb, Dignitas made the smart move to throw a Molotov onto the site, blocking the defuse. Unfortunately, olofmeister, defuse kit in hand, had other ideas. He quickly dived onto the bomb and began to defuse. The fire spread, burning olofmeister alive, but he didn’t stop. It was a race against time – what hits zero first? The defuse timer, or olofmeister’s HP?
It was the definition of a photo finish. As close as can be, olofmeister got the defuse, winning the round. Even better, they went on to win the map afterward.
If the Molotov had killed olofmeister, we’d be talking about one of the best CS:GO Major kills ever from dev1ce. Instead, olofmeister got a moment to remember forever, as well as the first-ever CS:GO graffiti on Overpass, immortalizing the play in history.
