Players can experience a lot of problems just loading up the game which they might not be prepared for.

Servers
The first thing to think about is the Fortnite servers. Epic can surprise you with patch timing. Server downtime can hit at completely random moments. Sometimes Epic will disable the game with no warning due to a bug. When the game isn’t working, you don’t always have to assume the worst.
A lot of the time the answer is simple, it’s that the game is down. You can check Epic’s website which has a live status section. That updates pretty frequently and gives you all the information you’ll need on if the game is down and when it’s coming back. In these cases, you’ve just got to wait for Epic to fix things. Sometimes if they’ve had a downtime that affects quests, you’ll even get something out of it! Waiting for this rare occurrence isn’t the most optimal way to get free V-bucks though.
Fixes for Fortnite Not Working
If the game does have online servers right now, don’t despair. There are still quite a few other solutions that you can use to try and fix Fortnite when it’s not working!
Restart the Game – The most basic solution. Shut down the app and restart the entire game.
Reset Your Router and Device – Reset your entire gaming router and the device you’re playing a game on.
Look for Other Problems – At this stage, you’re out of easy solutions! It’s helpful to take a look at online Fortnite communities and news to check if this is a widespread problem.
Troubleshoot Hardware – Try troubleshooting options for your actual hardware too.
When Fortnite is down, everyone is in the same situation. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got loads of time spent on Fortnite, there’s often nothing you can personally do to fix it.
Once you’ve run through the basic steps, there isn’t too much more you can do. Whether you’ve experienced a unique bug or half the player base is getting the same failure screen, you may be waiting for a fix from Epic. Thankfully these do tend to come pretty often.
