Call of Duty League Championship To Take Place in Las Vegas
Call of Duty League Championship To Take Place in Las Vegas

For the longest time, fans of the Call of Duty League have wondered where the biggest event of the year will be held. There were rumours circulating that it would take place in this city or that country – but nobody really knew the truth, until now. It has been revealed that the Call of Duty League Championship 2023 event will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, between the 15th and the 18th of June.

This’ll be one of the earliest Call of Duty League Championship showdowns in recent history, but that’s because it started so early last year. Following Major V, which will take place in Toronto, the League will welcome fans of the franchise to Sin City – for the first time since 2019. It’s already shaping up to be a monumental event, and as the biggest tournament in Call of Duty esports, it absolutely cannot be missed.

The Journey So Far

It has been a trying season for many of the League’s competitors. From shocking roster changes to unexpected retirements, and from huge upsets to staggering underdog victories, so much has happened to make this one of the most memorable CDL seasons ever. At present, Atlanta FaZe sits at the top of the CLD standings, following a massive win at Major II that served as the team’s first chip in more than a year.

It’s joined at the top by Toronto Ultra, Major III’s champion, and OpTic Texas (in third place), yet to win a Major this season but on a white-hot winning streak that could lead to a win at Major IV, which takes place this weekend.

At the far end of the table sits the likes of the London Royal Ravens, with a record of just six wins to seventeen losses this season. From there on up sits the Florida Mutineers and the Los Angeles Guerrillas, the latter of which sits on a knife-edge at present following the apparent implosion of The Guard, LAG’s parent organisation.

The Call of Duty League Championship Approaches

It’s now a battle to qualify for COD Champs, as only the top eight teams in the League will be granted access. If the tournament were to go ahead right now, Minnesota, LAG, Florida, and London wouldn’t even get to grace the stage at COD Champs 2023. There are high hopes for some teams, though – like Vegas Legion, brand-new for the 2023 season and sitting inches above the qualification line for Champs for the first time in franchise history.

There’s a $1.2 million prize pool on the line, and at present, LA Thieves sits proudly as the reigning champion. But, given a less-than-desirable performance that has yielded a record of 20 – 14 this season, there aren’t high hopes that the Thieves will be able to defend that trophy come June.

Tickets for the Call of Duty League Championship, which will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center UNLV, go on pre-sale on the 19th of April, and general sale on the 21st of April.
