EA Originals’ upcoming “first person magic shooter” Immortals of Aveum launches on July 20, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via the EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Immortals of Aveum puts players in the shoes of Jak as he joins the Order of the Immortals and becomes part of mankind’s endless war over magic.
The game is solely single player, and will play like a first person shooter but with magic abilities instead of guns, somewhat similar to Ghostwire: Tokyo that was released last year. A trailer has also been released.
Immortals of Aveum is naturally set in a fantasy universe and promises a visceral, cinematic, story-driven campaign with fast-paced action and spell-based combat that defies FPS conventions.
The game is being created by new AAA developer Ascendant Studios, which was co-founded by creative director of the original Dead Space and multiple Call of Duty campaigns Bret Robbins.
“I’m incredibly excited to finally show the world Immortals of Aveum. It’s been a five year journey for us at Ascendant, and I’m so proud of the team and their commitment to making something great,” said Robbins, who is also CEO and game director.
“We set out to create a cinematic, thrilling shooter set in a new fantasy world, with fast and fluid combat and an epic story. I can’t wait for everyone to play it.”
General manager of EA partners Jeff Gamon added: “Ascendant had us hooked when we saw how they had woven magic so seamlessly through fast-paced FPS combat, set against an action packed story we just wanted to keep reading.
“Bret built an incredibly talented team whose unrelenting passion for creating original, AAA games, deep lore and telling imaginative new stories is on full display in Immortals of Aveum.”

A lengthy plot synopsis for the game was also released: “Having grown up powerless and destitute, Jak (played by Darren Bernet) is what’s known as an Unforeseen — someone who unexpectedly manifests magical abilities later in life With his newfound potential, Jak is recruited by General Kirkan (played by Gina Torres) to join the Order of the Immortals and is reluctantly thrust into mankind’s endless war for the control of magic.
“With powerful magic-wielders and legions of soldiers on both sides of the Everwar, Jak and his elite order of Immortals must uncover the mysteries of Aveum’s troubled past, if there’s any hope for saving its future.”
Immortals of Aveum will be available for $59.99 on PC and $69.99 on consoles when it launches in July. A Deluxe Edition is available for $10 more and grants players a unique Sigil, three Rings, two Bracers, and three Totems, which are promised to be “valuable pieces of gear”. Preordering any version of the game also gives players access to the Purified Arclight Sigil.
