OpTic Texas On Track for Perfect Major IV Qualifiers

Following a monumental weekend in the CDL, OpTic Texas stands firm as the only team in the stage to have zero losses on the board. In the run-up to Major IV, which will be hosted in Columbus, Ohio, OpTic Texas has been an unstoppable force. Last night, the team decimated the LA Thieves, and over the course of the qualifiers thus far, has laid waste to the New York Subliners and the London Royal Ravens.

There’s every opportunity for OpTic Texas to enter Major IV with a perfect 5 – 0 record, guaranteeing the squad the top seed going into the Major tournament itself. Before that happens, OpTic Texas must contend with Boston Breach and the Los Angeles Guerrillas, but the last time it did so, it effortlessly produced wins against both of these opposing sides. If OpTic Texas can now go all the way, it’ll be the first Major win for the organisation since March 2022.

But It Hasn’t Been Fun For Others

Sadly, not every other team on the board has had such an enjoyable stage thus far. For instance, both the Florida Mutineers and the Los Angeles Guerrillas are yet to land a single win, and there are painfully few opportunities left to do so heading into Major IV. There’s only one match left for Florida, which will pit the team against the relatively consistent side of Vegas Legion, and for LAG, two fixtures remain – one against OpTic Texas and another against Seattle Surge.

It was almost a similar story for the London Royal Ravens, a team that has almost failed entirely to gain any ground in recent months. This weekend, the Ravens broke a losing streak by beating Vegas Legion, but between the team and Major IV now sits the New York Subliners, sitting in fifth place overall and still boasting that win at Major I from December 2022.

Bizarrely, Toronto Ultra has also seen a comedown, transitioning from lifting the trophy weeks ago at Major III to picking up a 1 – 3 record in the Major IV qualifiers. At the moment, Toronto Ultra sits in second place in the standings, but the team hasn’t been playing like a second-place squad. During this stage, the Canadian side has fallen against Seattle, Boston, and Atlanta FaZe, and there’s still a fixture laying in wait against the Vegas Legion.

Not a Bad Weekend

It was a fantastic weekend of esports for the Call of Duty League, punctuated with some epic moments that made it all the more exciting. There were some remarkable clips captured over the four-day period, such as the shot of NYSL’s Kismet slamming an ace on Search and Destroy in just a few seconds against OpTic Texas.

OpTic Texas also continued its spree of locking other teams in the ‘100 club’ by soaring effortlessly through rounds of Hardpoint. In recent weeks, OpTic Texas has 100 clubbed the New York Subliners (250 – 92), the Royal Ravens (250 – 68), Atlanta FaZe (250 – 96), and Boston Breach (250 – 91). Since Scump retired at the start of the season, the OpTic Texas squad has been hellbent on securing at least a chip in his honour, but there are expectations that this year, the Texas team is a solid contender for the CDL Championship.

There’s an exciting final week ahead before we break into Major IV – let’s see what happens.
