Orangutan female team shifts perceptions in the Indian Valorant Scene

If there is one team name which increased the hype at the Skyesport Pro Invitational, it was Orangutan. This was simply because they were the first all-female team in the tournament.

Majority of Valorant fans locally didn’t know that certain Indian organizations have a female roaster. What was the most surprising about the team is their run to the top in both female and male Valorant competitions. Within this article, we will be looking at the lurking giants known as Orangutan Female. To avoid any confusion within the following article they will be stated as simply Orangutan.

Team 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 – 4th VCT Game Changers APAC Stage 4: Elite team!

Going back to the beginning; the Orangutan Roaster has its first game back in April this year. With the organization Orangutan stepping into the female Valorant scene. Following the announcement of the Game Changers tournament by Riot for Valorant. Within this tournament, each team will consist of a female roaster. The amusing part of the team was how multiple puzzle pieces fitted in just right for it to take place. As of writing this article the team has a win-loss record of 14-9. While one must note that the majority of these games are during the VCT GC APAC tournaments.

While the last two losses of the team were in the Skyesport Pro Invitational, one must note that the other teams are filled with professions. As such the difference in experience was drastic and it was quite evident in the games. But Orangutan are known for their never give up attitude. This could be seen with them closing in on a comeback in either game.

Currently, the Orangutan Valorant roaster consists of the following players:

Sway
Lax
Chloettw
CaspeR
Japips
Kachow
GuNNeR(Coach)

Building an international powerhouse

It is quite impressive that this roaster consists of players from various nations in the APAC region. Due to this simple fact, one can notice the various ping each player gets while playing on a particular server. One of the most knowledgeable players in the team is Sway who is an Indian Valorant player. While making her name in the professional scene back in 2021. She had joined Asteria which was another Indian Female Valorant team and led the team to various victories. While settling into Orangutan in 2022 and being instrumental in their current success. She is known to be playing in the entry-fragging/duelist role.

While Chloettw is someone with a lot of accolades to her name. Previously being a part of Nigma Galaxy Female and joined Orangutan in June this year. She prefers to play as either the sentinel for the team to block sites or even as Viper on Various maps. CaspeR is someone who is very well known in the Indian Valorant community for her tactical plays. She was a part of Asteria as well with Sway and left the organization at a very similar time to the other. She is the main smokes for the team while also selecting Chamber on certain maps when the team needs her to.

Japips is the main initiator for Orangutan. While playing the characters of Sova and Breach mostly. She as well joined Orangutan back in April this year. Finally, we have Kachow who is the all-rounder for the team. She is one of the founding members of the roaster as well. She tends to play most roles in the game based on the map pick for the game.

Orangutan helps change Indian perceptions of female gamers and streamers

A year ago I got to see Sway from Orangutan play in a random Valorant tournament in India. This has immediately caught me off guard as previously I didn’t know of any professional female gamers from India. This simple incident made me start exploring more and realising the various female streamers before her. Looking at it currently, there are very few active all-female roasters in India for Valorant. There are a lot of reasons for this which could be taken into account but there are few major ones. Currently, if there are any female players in Valorant, especially in the Mumbai server, they aren’t taken seriously.

This in turn has to lead there to a small mountain of toxicity based on the fact that women can’t play better than men. This entire debate in itself has led to multiple discussions as well. Each game of the VCT Game Changers‘ lives stream has one or more sexist comments present it. It is still quite the backward mentality that has been very demoralizing for most female gamers to show their skills in tournaments.

While seeing the Orangutan team in the recent Indian Valorant tournament is well appreciated. It was much needed because the Indian Gamer Changers Valorant scene needs all the exposure it can. Their introduction is simply the beginning and hoping that this will start the building process of various other teams as well. It will only be a matter of time before which Indian fans of the game will see a tournament of the best Indian male and female teams face off with each other in an Indian LAN Event. If you would like to see the Orangutan team play next you can see them in the Champions Tour Game Changers Asia Pacific: Elite Tournament in October. If you would like to watch one of the best comebacks in Valorant history it is the X10 Sapphire Vs Orangutan Female game in the grand final of the VCT GC APAC Open Overtime.
