CDL 2022 Season so far

Now, as we approach the final Major of the year, it is time to have a quick recap. CDL 2022 has seen many surprises, from FaZe who had won majors in 2021, to this year, where they’ve participated in each final but lost on all occasions. We have also seen significant improvements with London Royal Ravens and Seattle Surge, who themselves have become title contenders. Additionally, with plenty of roster changes and new players entering the league, this has been a highly contested season.

It should also be mentioned that experienced players such as Dashy and Cellium have been pivotal across the season. With KD ratio’s above 1.20 and an average damage per death of over 150, it is no wonder why OpTic Texas and Atlanta FaZe have performed well.

Day 1 Breakdown and predictions

Firstly, unlike previous seasons of the CDL, 2022’s iteration is more competitive. Not one single team has won multiple titles, which is a testament to how even the playing field is. Also, all teams mathematically from 3rd-11th can either finalise a CDL championships spot or fall out with a bad showing. Excluding last placed Paris Legion who can still spoil the party, each team will be looking to win out and consolidate a placement.

Below we breakdown each match-up from day one, and show the odds straight from Midnite for results. In addition, we have included value market picks that can provide a great return for those looking for something extra.

Match 1

London Royal Ravens vs Toronto Ultra

Midnite Esports Odds: 1.68 / 2.14

In what must be the greatest turn around in CDL history, London Royal Ravens now find themselves secure in third place. From not qualifying for the World Championships in 2021, to now being one of the favourites, you cannot count them out. Alternatively, Ultra have had an up and down year, but with an above +500 season they sit in sixth place. On record in 2022, Ravens are up 2-1 against Ultra and are favoured to improve that record.

Match 2

Florida Mutineers vs Boston Breach

Midnite Esports Odds: 2.18/ 1.66

A surprise package this year has been the Boston Breach. With players such as TJHaLy, Nero, Vivid and Methodz, they offer a serious threat. Florida however is an underrated respawn team. Spear-headed by Owakening, they can cause a shock this tournament. They predominantly start quick in series’ hardpoint games. Florida have odds of 2.40 for map one, which is great value. However, it should be Breach who win out the series.

Match 3

Minnesota RØKKR vs New York Subliners

Midnite Esports Odds: 2.48/ 1.51

New York Subliners season depends on this tournament. In order to qualify for champs, they must win Major IV, and with the home crowd advantage it is a big possibility. Do not be surprised if NYSL pull out a clean sweep, as they themselves are coming off a 4-1 qualifier stage. However, Minnesota could spoil the party, but with the majority of the crowd against them, it could be a step to far.

Match 4

Atlanta FaZe vs Los Angeles Thieves

Midnite Esports Odds: 1.27/ 3.60

The LA Thieves may be a long shot, but are certainly a team that can upset the odds. In these teams previous meeting, FaZe came out on top 3-2 after dominating both S&D’s 6-0. However, LA did have the better of their opponents in respawn modes. Expect FaZe to come out on top in this match-up, but LA are more than capable of pushing them all the way.

Day one is going to be full of action, as all teams are wary of the challenge that an early lower bracket run can bring. With the likes of Surge and OpTic already in the lower bracket, nobody will want to drop down, regardless of recent form. So, now it is time to relax, and wait for the fireworks to kick off.
