Overwatch has released “In the Wolf’s Mouth,” an animated short featuring the clash between Doomfist and Vendetta. The video marks the end of Vendetta’s Reign of Talon and hints at a new beginning.

Overwatch Reign of Talon animated short: In the Wolf’s Mouth
Overwatch’s new Reign of Talon animated short begins with Sojourn, Tracer, and Winston jumping into action against Vendetta’s forces. It also has Brigitte inform them that the EMP bomb is also located beneath Colosseo and has Sojourn call for Baptiste.
Sojourn soon dukes it out against Vendetta, who is equipped with new gear like an anima blade thanks to Shion and hard light technology thanks to Domina.
Doomfist vs. Vendetta in Reign of Talon
Vendetta and Sojourn fight until Doomfist, equipped once more thanks to Doctrine, interrupts them, turning the confrontation into Vendetta versus Doomfist instead. Vendetta is eventually defeated when the statue of herself collapses on top of her. She asks Doomfist to kill her, warning that otherwise she’ll come after him, but Doomfist leaves her be and says that he expects nothing less.
Tracer and Winston then arrive, but they think twice about facing Doomfist as they see Reaper, Sombra, Widowmaker, and Sigma in the distance. Sojourn also tells them to stand down against Doomfist’s reunited Talon.
After Doomfist tells them to take Vendetta, Sojourn warns him that this isn’t over. Doomfist responds by declaring that Talon is about to become something new and something far more fierce.

Overwatch lore predictions (2026 and 2027)
This clash between Doomfist and Vendetta was foreshadowed throughout the lore this year. Other animated shorts plus comics, short stories, and in-game events, showed how Vendetta built up her empire. However, like Doomfist noted in “In the Wolf’s Mouth,” all empires fall.
With Vendetta’s defeat and now in the hands of Overwatch, the next chapter of the game’s story and lore are on the horizon.

However, it’s interesting to note that there are still a few unresolved narrative threads. For example, Emre and Freja remain missing while Jetpack Cat’s reveal as a Lucheng spy raises questions. Mizuki, Baptiste, and Cassidy’s recent appearance together in the Overwatch WEBTOON could hint at even more developments.
Additionally, with the upcoming omnic detective hero and clues scattered throughout the new Grimsvötn map, there are plenty of mysteries left to unravel as Overwatch’s story moves toward the end of 2026 and into 2027.
