It’s been a few days now since IO Interactive’s ventured into the world of British espionage and to celebrate the successful launch it’s now been revealed that 007 First Light sold a whopping 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours.
“Interactive, the independent video game developer and publisher behind the Hitman franchise, and Amazon MGM Studios are thrilled to announce that 007 First Light, has reached 1.5 million units sold within the first 24 hours, making it the fastest-selling title in IO Interactive’s history,” a press release explains. Its numbers on SteamDB aren’t too hot with just an all-time peak of 68,477, but there’s a good chance the majority of activity is on consoles.
Taking the title of the fastest selling game in IO’s history is also no mean feat, considering just how iconic the Hitman series is. But then again, First Light has the weight of 007 behind it and I’m reminded that it would have had to utterly bomb to not pull in these kinds of numbers. That isn’t, however, to take away from this milestone.
Alongside its impressive numbers 007 First Light has managed to pull in some decent reviews, with a very positive rating on Steam, alongside an OpenCritic rating of 88 and Metacritic score of 87. But you can read all about that in our 007 First Light review roundup.
“But where’s PC Gamer’s review?” I hear some distant voice ask. In the works, I can vouch for that, but our would-be reviewer Joshua Wolens had to wait a bit longer for code. But if you’re curious then you can check out the 007 First Light preview for a little sneak peak at what is likely to come, or you could just fork over £60 and try the game out for yourself.
