Activision has unveiled the full roadmap for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2 update.

It includes details on the anticipated launch of Ranked Play, alongside information on new weaponry that could impact the meta used in the Call of Duty esports circuit.

Four New Maps

The launch of Season 2 on February 5th will introduce four new six-versus-six maps, with each one featuring Treyarch’s signature three-lane design philosophy to create a mixture of close-quarters combat and long-range engagement opportunities.

Torment, Nexus, and Sake will be the brand-new additions to the Call of Duty franchise, with Sake continuing to use Japan as a setting for Black Ops 7’s multiplayer battlegrounds.

Slums from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will make its return in Season 2. The map previously featured in the title’s esports circuit in the Hardpoint and Search and Destroy modes.

Fresh Weaponry

Available through the Season 2 battle pass, the REV-46 submachine gun and the EGRT-17 assault rifle will join Black Ops 7’s expanding weapon arsenal.

Armed with a high rate of fire and a foldable stock, the REV-46 features high levels of versatility that could result in the weapon shaking up the existing meta dominated by the Dravec 45 and the M15 MOD 0.

Black Ops 7 Ranked Play Launches

Alongside new maps and weapons, Black Ops 7’s Ranked Play will launch with Season 2, offering players an in-game platform to showcase their skills and climb to the top of the leaderboard. The mode will use the same rules and restrictions seen in the Call of Duty League (CDL) to replicate the professional competitive experience.

Notably, Ranked Play will also adhere to the unofficial gentleman’s agreement to ensure the restrictions replicate those used at the highest level of competition.

Players will earn a starting Skill Rating (SR) determined by the results of placement matches, along with the rank and tier. Ranging from Bronze (0-600 SR) to Iridescent (10,000 SR+), players will be able to receive SR by winning matches to get promoted into the higher ranks.

To maintain competitive integrity, Black Ops 7 Ranked Play will only allow parties of one or two players in Crimson and above. As a result, teams of four will only be able to participate in Ranked Play matches in Diamond rank and below.

The top 250 players will earn a place in the Top 250 tier above Iridescent. Active CDL players and broadcast talent will feature dedicated information cards, enabling fans to keep track of their favourite players and personalities throughout the season.

How Will Season 2 Impact Esports?

The arrival of new maps can introduce new battlegrounds to the competitive map pool during the break between Major 1 and Major 2.

Ranked Play will offer Call of Duty esports fans a playlist mirroring the CDL, giving them a chance to compete under the same rules and restrictions while climbing the leaderboard that often features players from the 12 franchises.

With plenty of viable map options, along with the addition of new weaponry, the Season 2 update for Black Ops 7 can inject a breath of fresh air into the CDL as the 2025/26 season nears the halfway point of the regular season.
