Nintendo and Panda: Sharing the magic of competitive Super Smash Bros. through Panda Cup’s grassroots support

Esports is always expanding, whether that be from a business, community, or content perspective. So when Panda announced that it was going to be running the first officially licensed Super Smash Bros. circuit in partnership with Nintendo of America last November, it opened a lot of doors and raised a lot of questions in one of the biggest grassroots communities. 

The Panda Cup entered the scene at a point where many Smash players and fans had just expected Nintendo to always be a player on the sidelines when it came to competitive play—twisting that narrative around as NoA partnered with an organization born from the fighting game community (FGC).
