Space Marine 2 publisher Focus Interactive has asked players not to spoil the game’s story as its early access period goes live.

Warhammer 40,000 action game Space Marine 2 sees Titus of the Ultramarines go up against the Tyranid horde as well as the forces of Chaos in a sequel that arrives 13 years after its predecessor. It includes a campaign that can be played co-op, a PvE Operations mode, and a PvP mode. IGN’s Space Marine 2 review returned an 8/10. We said: “Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 may not break the third-person shooter mold, but it looks amazing, makes good use of its Warhammer lore, and has brutal combat that just feels great.”

In a tweet, Focus published a statement calling on Space Marine 2 players not to spoil the campaign because “every Space Marine out there deserves the thrill of discovering the game’s story on their own.”

“Together, let’s take care of the long-time Warhammer fans and newcomers alike by making sure everyone can enjoy the game without being spoiled,” Focus continued. “Your fellow brothers and sisters will appreciate it!”

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s global release date is September 9, but those who pre-ordered any of the special editions get early access from today, September 5. (Check out Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s global release times to find out when the game goes live in your region.)

Fans have pointed out that it will be difficult to contain spoilers when Space Marine 2’s effective release date is a full four days before its global release date. No doubt fans will be streaming and posting content to the likes of YouTube imminently.

Focus has also been criticized by some for enabling full campaign walkthroughs on YouTube and Twitch from content creators 24 hours before the early access period, meaning before the vast majority of players can get their hands on the game.

If you care this much about that, maybe they don’t let content creators stream the game ahead of time or offer an early access period for preorders of the expensive editions? Just a thought. Looking forward to the game 🤘

Hilarious tweeting something like this when selling a version of the game with 4 day early access.

This isn’t the first time Focus has asked fans to avoid spoiling Space Marine 2. In July, Focus responded to the leak of a playable build of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 to say “it’s disheartening that many of the surprises we worked to keep secret were spoiled.”

Last week, Focus Entertainment answered a number of burning questions fans had about Space Marine 2, including console performance specs and cross-play, and confirmed what fans can expect from Space Marine 2’s seasonal post-launch content model. Season 2 runs from October until the end of 2024, and includes a new Operations map, a new enemy, a harder difficulty level, a new weapon, and various other improvements.
