Monster Hunter Wilds Finally Removes Gendered Armor, Meaning Anyone Can Wear Anything

Capcom is finally removing gendered armor from the Monster Hunter series in 2025’s Monster Hunter Wilds, meaning any character can wear any equipment.

Game director Yuya Tokuda revealed during a presentation of Monster Hunter Wilds that the much requested feature would finally be implemented after more than 20 games and 20 years.

“In previous Monster Hunter games you had male and female armor, but I’m happy to confirm that in Monster Hunter Wilds there’s no more male and female armor,” Tokuda said via a translator. “All characters can wear any gear.”

Monster Hunter fans have already expressed excitement over the change, as a post titled “We Defeated Gender” currently sits with 10,000 upvotes on the series’ Reddit page. “Finally get to play a female lancer with the most absolute big chonka armor known to man,” said one user in the comments.

Monster Hunters Wilds was announced in December 2023 as the next mainline entry though no concrete release date has been given by Capcom yet.

In our latest preview of the game, IGN said it’s “shaping up to be pretty much what [we] hoped for: A Monster Hunter that embraces the parts of Rise that made it so much more inviting, but also doesn’t shy away from the larger scale and spectacle that helped make World the more enduring entry.”
