2002 GameCube and PlayStation 2 action adventure Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is being revived and re-released on PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch on August 1 priced $19.99.
The LucasArts-developed game, now 22 years old, is a prequel to Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and lets you play as Jango Fett, who is hired to capture a Dark Jedi. As you’d expect, Jango has dual blasters, a flamethrower, toxic darts, and jetpack missiles.
This is yet another Star Wars revival from Aspyr, which is still working to fix this year’s disastrous launch of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is said to have visual improvements, improved environmental textures, new dynamic lighting effects, and a new flashlight tool for navigating dark places. There’s Steam Deck support and a number of DualSense controller features for PS5 players.
Aspyr said for the first time ever, if the campaign is completed players can unlock a new Boba Fett skin for their next playthrough, “paying off a notorious Easter egg from the original game.”
As explained in a PlayStation Blog post by Chris Bashaar, Director of Product at Aspyr, the original Star Wars: Bounty Hunter has a very low-resolution texture with a message written in Aurebesh: “Cash in all bounties to play as Boba.”
“While the message did exist, the feature did not,” Bashaar explained. “So even if you hit 100% on your save file, you were only able to play as Jango Fett.
“We’ve brought this Easter egg to life, so after completing the campaign, you will be able to equip a new Boba Fett skin for your next playthrough.”
Here’s the list of key features, as detailed by Aspyr:
Let the Hunt Begin: In this classic third-person action-adventure, you’ll play as Jango Fett, Prime Clone of the Grand Army of the Republic, hired to capture a deranged Dark Jedi.Relive the Timeless Tale: Experience the legendary Bounty Hunter fantasy set before the events of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Face off against foes and maneuver through acrobatic battles in this adaption optimized for today’s consoles and hardware.Armed to the Teeth: Fight your way through the galaxy’s underbelly, equipped with Dual Blasters, your Flamethrower, Whipcord, and pure Mandalorian Rage.
And here’s the list of PS5-exclusive features:
