Path of Exile 2 showed up for Sony’s May 2024 State of Play presentation, revealing an early access release window of late 2024.
Along with first details for the dungeon crawler’s pre-launch plans, developer Grinding Gear Games’ video came with more gameplay and features for players to look forward to. Included in the highlight reel were promises of couch co-op, cross-play, cross-progression, twisted new creatures, and more. It’s a list of additions that players can look forward to when early access arrives later this year.
Path of Exile 2 was announced as a full-blown, free-to-play sequel to Grinding Gears’ hit original game in 2019. Following today’s presentation, game director Jonathan Rogers published a PlayStation.Blog post following today’s presentation that teases more of what’s to come. The post teases 12 character classes, a new Skill Gem system with 240 Skill Gems and 200 Support Gems, 700 equipment base types, and more.
Rogers also promises that Path of Exile 2 will not be a “pay-to-win” title even after it eventually leaves early access. Expect to learn more when Grinding Gear eventually narrows down a firm release date. For more from today’s State of Play, you can read up on the next Astro Bot game, God of War: Ragnarok on PC, and Dynasty Warriors Origins.
