Irish esports organisation WYLDE has announced its exit from Rainbow Six esports after five years.
The organisation, co-owned by Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, cited the sustainability of operating a team in Ubisoft’s first-person shooter title as a factor behind the decision.
Announced on January 29th, WYLDE has competed in Rainbow Six Siege since 2021. Over the last five years, the organisation has been a notable name in Europe, competing across several regional tournaments.
The organisation’s solitary appearance at an international event came at Gamers8 in 2022. The roster scored a top-four finish, defeating the likes of Team Liquid and Spacestation Gaming to take home $155,000 (~£112,611) in prize money.
“Today marks a heartbreaking moment for WYLDE as we announce our withdrawal from competitive Rainbow Six Siege after five years,” wrote the organisation in a statement.
“The commercial reality of sustaining a Tier One team, providing necessary support, and the appropriate pay is not possible under the current conditions. WYLDE loves Siege; we cherish the community and endeavour to find a viable path.”
WYLDE becomes the latest organisation to depart the Rainbow Six scene in 2026. On January 5th, North American organisation ENVY parted ways with its roster before the last-chance qualifier for the Six Invitational.
Following its departure from Rainbow Six, WYLDE continues to field rosters across a variety of titles, including Rocket League and Trackmania. In addition to its esports efforts, the organisation operates Ireland’s National Esports Centre to provide opportunities for aspiring esports professionals.
Rainbow Six Esports In 2026
The Rainbow Six esports scene is gearing up for the Six Invitational, the title’s crowning event. Taking place in Paris, France, from February 2nd to 15th, 20 teams will compete for a share of a $3m (~£2.1m) prize pool and a chance to be crowned world champion.
In 2026, the title’s esports circuit features three LAN events, taking place in May, August, and November, with the season-ending Six Invitational taking place in February 2027.
