The Resident Evil 2 remake hits Apple iPhone, iPad, and Mac on December 31, and publisher Capcom has revealed players can enjoy a free trial before purchasing fully.

Capcom revealed more information on the port, which was announced alongside the Apple version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in June, in a Japanese press release translated by Siliconera. It didn’t mention the release date specifically but Apple App Stores were updated with a December 31 date alongside the new information.

“A limited part of the base game can be played for free,” reads the game’s App Store page. “In order to play the full game, an in-app purchase is required.”

Resident Evil 2 will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, and all subsequent mobile releases from Apple. All silicon-powered iPads and Macs will support the game too, and buying on any of these platforms grants access on the others.

Touch controls will be supported but the listing says a fully functional video game controller is recommended. “It can be played on an iPad, but using a controller will provide a better experience,” the page said.

The Resident Evil 2 remake arrived in 2019 as, unsurprisingly, a remake of the original from 1998. “This is how you remake a classic,” IGN said in our 9/10 review. “Resident Evil 2 expertly reanimates the horrifying atmosphere and moments of extreme tension that made the original so revered.”
