Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster Reemerges with a March Release Date

After an unexpected delay and quietly vanishing for a year, Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster has reemerged with a new release date of March 6, 2025.

In today’s Nintendo Partner Direct, we got a new look at the remastered collection, whose full title is Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Gate Dawn and Dunan Unification Wars. The trailer highlighted two new features being added in the remaster, the ability to speed up combat to 2x and 4x speeds, and an auto-battle button.

Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster was first announced back in 2022 with a plan for a 2023 release date. At the time, we learned that the game would be getting a significant visual overhaul with new screen effects, pixel sprites, and environment art. All character portraits have been updated in HD, and the portraits in the first game have been newly redrawn. There are additional improvements to sound and small feature improvements, including a dialogue log.

Almost exactly a year ago, Konami delayed the collection, only saying that additional time was needed to ensure quality. No new release date was given at the time.

Suikoden is a classic RPG series that historically has been exclusive to PlayStation, with all five mainline games releasing on the system between 1995 and 2006. The series is best known for their casts of over 100 recruitable characters. We reviewed both games positively in their original renditions, with Suikoden 1 getting a 9/10 and Suikoden 2 getting the same score.
