The original Resident Evil is now finally available on PC again thanks to a collaboration between Capcom and CD Projekt-owned storefront GOG.

An announcement from the latter revealed the classic Resident Evil, not the remastered version, is now available on the store for $9.99. GOG also announced that Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil will join it sometime in 2024, and a $24.99 bundle is available for those who want all three games.

Resident Evil originally arrived on PC in 1996 but didn’t exist on any digital storefronts until now. Steam, which has the remastered version but not the original, is expected to get the classic version soon, however, as a listing for it was spotted on European rating website PEGI.

“In joint efforts with the original creators Capcom, we’re thrilled to announce the re-release of the original Resident Evil, the groundbreaking series that heralded the golden age of the survival horror genre,” GOG said in the post.

“This iconic classic is now available with all its original content intact, featuring quality of life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern systems. As part of GOG’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve classic games, Resident Evil is now available on the DRM-free GOG store.”

The original Resident Evil is where the beloved franchise began, of course, but has been somewhat overlooked in recent years as Capcom favors developing new entries in the franchise as well as full remakes of older games.

These began with Resident Evil 2, however, completely skipping the original, and have so far continued to include Resident Evil 3 and the fan-favorite Resident Evil 4. Capcom is reportedly working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica too, alongside a mainline ninth game.
