The Persona series is known for its bold art direction, with each modern game boasting its own distinct style, and a leak now appears to confirm a wild fan theory based on how Persona 6 will look.
Midori, an established leaker of Persona developer Atlus, posted on X/Twitter that “the color theme for Persona 6 is green”. This comes in comparison to Persona 3 having a blue theme, Persona 4 having a yellow theme, and Persona 5 having a red theme.
While this is perhaps inconsequential at first glance, this leak, if true, also confirms a wild theory Persona fans have been spinning for the past two years.
Artwork released as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration in 2022 showed all the Persona protagonists standing against a graffitied wall. The framing of the characters had them stand just a tad off-center, and space for another character was instead taken up by a tub of green paint despite the wall having very little green on it.
This sparked the fan theory that Persona 6, which Atlus hasn’t said a word about officially, would have a green art style. “Bottom left: Persona 6 color scheme?” asked Pr0Gam3rM4n in a 2022 Reddit post about the artwork. “Green bucket is my favorite Persona protagonist,” said TheRidiculousOtaku, to which Cinnay replied: “Persona 6 main color green confirmed”.
Fast forward to today, and the top comment on a Reddit thread discussing Midori’s X/Twitter post is: “The paint bucket theory was true”. Other users chimed in too. “Bucket bros, we won,” wrote Kotouu.
Atlus last released a mainline Persona game in 2016 with Persona 5 but has kept the franchise busy elsewhere with all manner of remakes and spin-offs. Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the original 2006 game, was most recent as it arrived February 2 on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X and S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version hasn’t been announced so far, though Persona 3 Reload’s director Takuya Yamaguchi has said it’s not out of the question.
In our 9/10 review, IGN said: “With a stellar visual overhaul and countless small but impactful changes, Persona 3 Reload tells a timeless story of tragedy and hope with sharp emotional sincerity.”
