Best PS5 Faceplates

The PlayStation 5 launched with a distinctive look that may have inspired a lot of memes, with its white PS5 faceplates that made it look like something out of a science fiction movie. But if that look didn’t hook you immediately, Sony designed a way to customize how your PS5 will look in your living room – something you can’t do with the Xbox Series X.

TL;DR – These Are The Best PS5 Faceplates

One way is through removable faceplates. By using a different set of faceplates, you can completely change the way your PS5 looks, but it goes further than just swapping colorways. Third party PS5 faceplates can offer a range of new features, from additional cooling solutions to slight reshaping. And luckily, Sony carried forward this customization option with the PS5 Slim, even if it hasn’t released official faceplates for it yet.

The Best PS5 Faceplates:

1. Dbrand Darkplates 2.0

The best PS5 faceplate

Pros:

Tons of varietyHelps keep the console cooler

Cons:

Not compatible with PS5 Slim

The Dbrand Darkplates 2.0 are Dbrand’s second attempt at creating custom looks for the PS5, after its first faceplate got a cease and desist letter from Sony, according to a report from The Verge. Don’t worry, though, the company is back with an even nicer set of DarkPlates.

The DarkPlates 2.0 have a smooth design that is absolutely stunning. And, for functionality’s sake, Dbrand added ventilation to help make your PS5 last just a little bit longer. As an added touch, Dbrand has printed an array of 1s and 0s – which is Sony’s full cease-and-desist letter, encoded in binary.

2. Sony PS5 Console Covers

Best colorful PS5 faceplate

Pros:

Available in 9 colors Straight from Sony itself

Cons:

Expensive

If all you want to change is the color of your PS5, the best way to do it is with the official Sony PS5 Console Covers. Say all you want about the dozens of PS5 faceplates on Amazon, these ones will fit 100% of the time, and look just as good as the original; just in a wider array of colors. Since launch, Sony has released 9 different colorways for its Console Covers, from ones you’d expect like Midnight Black to the stunning Nova Pink. There’s even a camo option.

The only downside is that, well, the official Sony PS5 faceplate is kind of expensive. We’re talking $55 for the standard PS5 with a disc drive, and $59.99 for the digital edition. Sony hasn’t released an official cover for the PS5 slim, though. But while these are some of the most expensive chunks of plastic you’ll buy in a while, it does come with the comfort of knowing they’re going to fit, and the color isn’t going to fade over time.

3. Dobewingdelou RGB Faceplate

Best PS5 faceplate with RGB

Pros:

All black design 400 adjustable lighting affects controllable by three ways

Cons:

May run into customer service issues

This RGB Faceplate from Dobewingdelou has an all-black design with RGB lighting to add some extra flair to your PS5. The RGB lighting is in three different zones: underneath the faceplate on either side, and the third zone highlights the fan cover that Dobewingdelou worked in to improve cooling performance. But because the PS5 isn’t one of the best gaming PCs, you’ll have to use a dedicated remote or a smartphone app to customize the lighting.

However, because this PS5 faceplate isn’t from a well known brand, like Sony or DBrand, you’ll probably be on your own if you run into any problems. From our research, it does seem like this Dobewingdelou PS5 faceplate does work extremely well, though.

4. MES Merry 5 in 1 Black Plates

Best PS5 Slim faceplate

Pros:

Cheap Comes with faceplates for both disc digital editions

Cons:

No extra ventilation

Because the PS5 Slim doesn’t have an official faceplate replacement yet, if you want to customize the look of your skinnier PS5, this MES Merry faceplate is probably the best option. Rather than being one hunk of plastic that you snap onto your PS5 Slim, this 5-in-1 plate setup lets you mix and match to totally change the way your console looks.

Just looking at the reviews on Amazon, gamers have created stunning mixes of colors with these mix-and-match plates. So, yeah, it sucks that Sony is taking its sweet time with releasing an official faceplate for the PS5 Slim, but at least these plates from MES exist. Sony, now it’s on you to make something better.

FAQ

Do PS5 faceplates with vents work?

Yes. Right under where the faceplate clips onto the console is a fan. Now, usually this fan just bounces hot air off of the cover, which isn’t great at dissipating heat. Vents help the hot air from the console escape, which cools down the console faster than it would otherwise.

Will Sony make PS5 faceplates?

Yes, Sony has faceplates for the original PS5, both with and without the disc drive. However, Sony has not released an official faceplate for the PS5 Slim yet, but it probably will at some point.

Is it safe to remove PS5 plates?

Yes, just make sure you turn the power off and take your time with it. Sometimes the faceplates can be a bit of a hassle, you have to push them up, while also pulling them back. Luckily we have a handy little guide on how to expand your PS5 storage, and removing the faceplate is one of the steps!

Is it safe to cover PS5?

You shouldn’t run your PS5 if it’s covered with something. Trust us, you don’t want to trap hot air in with any piece of electronics, especially not your precious PS5!
